AlphaGov is seeking a Senior Tekla Detailer in Austin, TX to oversee structural steel modeling, detailing, and drawing production for fabrication and field erection. Responsibilities

• Direct 3D steel modeling and detailing from design through shop fabrication and erection.
• Generate detailed shop drawings, erection layouts, material lists, and fabrication packages.
• Translate plans and specs into accurate steel models.
• Identify design conflicts and fabrication risks before production.
• Establish and refine Tekla modeling standards, templates, and detailing procedures.
• Audit models and drawings for accuracy and constructability.
• Coordinate details with engineers, fabricators, production, project managers, general contractors, and erection crews.
• Troubleshoot connection details, drawing revisions, modeling conflicts, and field issues.
• Coach junior detailers and provide technical guidance.
• Introduce QC practices to reduce errors and delays.
• Account for shop capabilities, tolerances, and erection sequences in models.
• Prioritize multiple projects and meet production milestones.
• Improve modeling methods, documentation quality, and detailing efficiency.
• Coordinate releases with engineering, fabrication, material delivery, and erection schedules.

Job description

We're seeking a Senior Tekla Detailer to oversee structural steel modeling, detailing, and drawing production for fabrication and field erection. This role combines advanced Tekla Structures expertise with technical leadership, quality assurance, and process improvement to ensure steel components are accurately detailed and ready for production and installation.

Key Responsibilities

• Direct 3D steel modeling and detailing from initial design coordination through shop fabrication and on-site erection
• Generate detailed shop drawings, erection layouts, material lists, and fabrication packages that meet project requirements
• Translate engineering plans, architectural drawings, and technical specifications into accurate, buildable steel models
• Identify design conflicts, incomplete information, dimensional discrepancies, and fabrication or installation risks before production
• Establish and refine Tekla modeling standards, templates, custom components, and detailing procedures
• Audit models and drawings for accuracy, completeness, constructability, and compliance with project specifications
• Coordinate design details with structural engineers, fabricators, production personnel, project managers, general contractors, and erection crews
• Troubleshoot steel connection details, drawing revisions, modeling conflicts, and field installation issues
• Coach junior detailers, review their deliverables, and provide technical guidance to improve team performance
• Introduce quality-control practices that reduce detailing errors, rework, and production delays

Requirements

• 8+ years of structural steel detailing experience
• Advanced proficiency in Tekla Structures is required
• Direct experience working in a structural steel fabrication environment is required
• Strong knowledge of steel connections, fabrication drawings, material specifications, shop processes, and erection planning
• Demonstrated ability to produce precise, fabrication-ready 3D models and construction drawings
• Experience creating or improving Tekla templates, custom components, modeling standards, and production workflows
• Background mentoring detailers, reviewing technical work, or providing team-level guidance
• Ability to interpret structural and architectural drawings, engineering details, and fabrication specifications
• In-depth understanding of steel tolerances, constructability, fabrication requirements, and field installation methods
• Experience coordinating with engineering, shop production, project management, and erection teams
• Strong technical judgment, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
• Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accurate documentation
• Ability to balance multiple assignments and meet demanding deadlines
• Thorough understanding of the structural steel process from modeling and detailing through fabrication, delivery, and erection
