Job summary

Southwest Research Institute in San Antonio, TX, invites applications for a hands-on mechanical support role within our experimental testing group. You will join engineers and technicians to create field-realistic conditions, handling piping, fixtures, and test equipment in a controlled environment.

You will load/unload materials, operate cranes and forklifts, install instrumentation, and assist with safety improvements while coordinating with staff, customers, and vendors.

Qualifications

• Requires a high school diploma or equivalent.
• 2+ years: Familiarity with mechanical tools, general laboratory equipment, and piping systems.
• 2-10 years: Related mechanical experience including equipment repair, plumbing, plant/process/oilfield operations, HVAC.
• A valid/clear driver’s license is required.

Responsibilities

• Install and remove piping components and assemblies, load/unload, move materials and equipment for operations; drive Institute vehicles and forklifts; operate cranes and other lifts.
• Assist in servicing, maintenance, and troubleshooting of mechanical and fluid handling equipment.
• Assist in installation and wiring of instrumentation.
• Support operations of elevated‑pressure flow loop test facilities.
• Communicate with SwRI staff, customers, and vendors on status, progress, problems and results.
• Participate in continuous safety and operational improvements in a collaborative team setting.
