Job summary

HNTB is seeking a skilled professional for advanced engineering drafting and data gathering across complex infrastructure projects. You’ll assist project management by outlining objectives, requirements, and design approaches, and gather engineering data from multiple sources to support early planning and design efforts.

The role requires a Bachelor’s or AS degree with substantial relevant experience, strong CAD/Drafting capabilities, and familiarity with GIS, 3D design, and civil design tools.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology or related field with 6+ years of relevant experience, or
• AS in Drafting or Technical School with 8+ years of relevant experience, or
• In lieu education, 10 years of relevant experience

Responsibilities

• Verify drawings accuracy and cross-disciplinary compatibility; check details and quantity calculations.
• Assist in engineering studies and evaluations from concept to design stage with project engineer/architect.
• Attend project and pre-construction meetings and provide input to ensure policies, procedures, and specs are followed.
• Resolve technical design problems; may include field investigations and data collection.
• Provide general administrative support; maintain complex project plans and prepare management reports.
• Recommend process improvements for project delivery at office level.
• Calculate quantities and perform engineering-related computations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

This opportunity entails performing non-routine and complex assignments at an advance proficiency level, involving responsibility for planning and conducting complete projects of varied scope. Assists the project management team in outlining objectives, requirements and design approaches. Responsible for gathering engineering or operational data from a variety of sources.

What You’ll Do

• Responsible for verifying the accuracy of drawings, compatibility of work across disciplines and for checking detail and quantity calculations. Calculates design data, prepares layouts, detailed specifications, estimates, reports, etc.
• Assists in preparing engineering studies and evaluations involved in the development of projects from initial concept to the design stage, with the assistance from the project engineer/architect.
• Attends project and pre-construction meetings and provides input to ensure proper policies, procedures, and specifications are followed.
• Responsible for resolving technical design problems that may include performing field investigation or inspections, detailed design work and data.
• Performs general administrative assistance by maintaining complex project plans. May develop documentation, prepare project management report and monitors accomplishments as related to targeted goals.
• Makes recommendations regarding process improvement for project delivery at the office level.
• Calculates quantities and performs engineering related computations.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

What You’ll Need

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology or related field and 6 years of relevant experience, or
• Associate of Science in Drafting or Technical School or related and 8 years of relevant experience, or
• In lieu education, 10 years of relevant experience

What You'll Bring

• Ability to work effectively and participate in working relationships with clients and sub-contractors.
• Proficient in CADD design software such as GIS, 3D, Highway or Railroad design, Building design and Graphic Imaging.
• Proficient in the terminology and symbols used in survey notes, plans, shop drawings, aerial photographs, and maps related to a specific Engineering sub-type.

What We Prefer

• Knowledge of Bentley ORD and/or Autodesk Civil 3D.
