Job summary

McKim & Creed seeks a Senior Technical Specialist to lead technical and design services for renewable distributed energy resources (DER) projects from commercial to utility-scale. You will oversee designs, perform both steady-state and dynamic power analyses, and collaborate with mechanical, structural, survey, and civil disciplines to ensure comprehensive solutions.

This role focuses on DER projects connecting at distribution and transmission for utility-scale work up to 1000 MW-ac / 2000

Qualifications

• B.S. in Electrical Engineering.
• 10+ years of experience in electrical power systems.
• Experience with AutoCAD and/or Revit.
• Experience with steady-state and dynamic power analyses (ETAP and OpenDSS/PSCAD/PSS/E).
• Strong communicator and able to ask questions when necessary.
• Enjoys working alone when required but can work effectively on a project team.
• Able to complete work with flexibility to accommodate varying project demands.
• Must maintain a high level of precision and accuracy and be methodical.
• High technical ability and staying current in the field.
• Good communication and self-starting.

Responsibilities

• Oversee designs and drawings for DER projects across distribution and transmission.
• Provide leadership in technical and design services for renewable DER projects, collaborating with an interdisciplinary team.
• Lead projects up to 1000 MW-ac / 2000 MWh-dc, including solar PV and battery energy storage systems.

OVERVIEW

We currently have an exciting opportunity as a Senior Technical Specialist to join our Building, Energy and Infrastructure (BEI) Group within our Distributed Energy Resources (DER) team. In this strategic role you will provide leadership in technical and design services for renewable DER (distributed energy resources) projects from large-scale commercial to utility-scale. Collaborate as part of an interdisciplinary cross-engineering team which includes mechanical, structural, survey, and civil disciplines.

DURING YOUR WORK-DAY, YOU WILL

• Oversee designs and drawings, including both steady-state and dynamic power analyses.
• Provide leadership in technical and design services for renewable DER (distributed energy resources) projects from large-scale commercial to utility-scale. Collaborate as part of an interdisciplinary cross-engineering team which includes mechanical, structural, survey, and civil disciplines.
• Oversee designs and drawings, including both steady-state and dynamic power analyses.
• This person is a technical expert and lead for distributed energy resource (DER) projects connecting at both distribution and transmission for utility scale projects varying in size up to 1000 MW-ac / 2000 MWh-dc. These projects will encompass both solar PV and BESS (battery energy storage systems). Commercial and Industrial (C&I) projects will be both behind the meter and in front of the meter varying in size from 100 kW-ac to 10 MW-ac. The engineer will collaborate with the full team to ensure civil, survey, structural, mechanical, electrical/MV designs and studies are addressed.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

• 10+ YEARS OF EXPEREINCE IN ELECTRICAL POWERS SYSTEMS
• B.S. in Electrical Engineering
• Experience using Autocad and/or Revit software is required.
• Experience with steady-state and dynamic power analyses (ETAP and potentially OpenDSS, PSCAD, and PSS/E).
• Willing communicator and able to ask questions when necessary.
• Enjoys working alone when required but can work effectively on a project team.
• Able to complete work consistently with flexibility to accommodate varying project demands.
• Must maintain a high level of precision and accuracy and be methodical in approach to work.
• High technical ability, interested in technology and staying current in his field.
• Good ability to communicate and a self-starter.

WHAT WILL MAKE YOU STAND OUT:

• Experience with NEC, NESC, and IEEE codes and standards is appreciated.
• Experience with MV and substation interconnection/protection is welcome.
• PE Licensure in GA, NC or PA is welcomed
• NABCEP certification is welcomed
