Job summary

ms consultants is seeking an Architectural Senior Technical Service Manager to lead the Building Systems team in Columbus, OH or Pittsburgh, PA.

You will mentor staff, guide project execution, coordinate engineering and architecture disciplines, and ensure high‑quality work delivered on time and within budget across diverse commercial projects.

This role offers collaboration across in‑house specialists, opportunities for growth, and engagement with industry events to advance technical excellence.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited or NCARB certified institution
  • Proven experience managing a technical team within a collaborative, matrixed environment
  • Registered Architect or PE license preferred
  • Master’s degree preferred

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the professional growth and development of the Architectural staff with monthly one-on-one meetings
  • Manage team technical skill sets and capabilities; set annual development goals
  • Assist Project Managers with proposals focusing on scope, schedule, and budget
  • Complete quarterly reports on hiring, efficiency, turnover, project performance, and quality; oversee staff project assignments to achieve 80% utilization
  • Develop strategic alliances with sub-consultants to enhance service offerings
  • Maintain a professional network to identify and attract talent
  • Collaborate to identify opportunities for expanding into new technical areas (energy modeling, 3D scanning)
  • Participate in industry events, including regional conferences and technical articles
  • Oversee establishment and maintenance of technical quality standards; manage resource loading for upcoming projects

ms consultants is seeking an experienced Architectural Senior Technical Service Manager to join our growing Building Systems team. We’re looking for a technical expert who can lead and mentor our Architectural team, ensuring high-quality technical deliverables are provided on time and within budget.

About The Building Systems Business Unit

Our Building Systems Business Unit offers architecture, engineering, and planning consulting services to a diverse range of commercial and public clients. We work with sectors including financial services, retail, restaurants, office spaces, municipalities, and grocery markets.


What You’ll Do

  • Oversee the professional growth and development of our service group’s Architectural staff. This would include conducting monthly one-on-one meetings with technical staff to discuss progress and assign longer-term projects that encourage professional growth
  • Manage team technical skill sets and capabilities, identify areas for improvement, and set annual development goals
  • Assist Project Managers with proposals, focusing on scope, schedule, and budget to ensure successful project execution
  • Complete quarterly reports on hiring, efficiency, turnover, project performance, and quality. Oversee staff project assignments to achieve the corporate goal of 80% staff utilization.
  • Develop strong strategic alliances with sub-consultants to enhance service offerings
  • Maintain a professional network of industry peers to identify and attract potential talent
  • Collaborate with Project Managers to identify opportunities for expanding into new technical areas, including different building types, innovative designs, and specialized services such as energy modeling and 3D scanning
  • Actively participate in industry events, including speaking at regional conferences and writing technical articles and submitting projects for awards, with support from the marketing department
  • Oversee the establishment and maintenance of technical quality standards for our team. and ensuring standards are consistently met. Manage resource loading for upcoming projects

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited or NCARB certified institution
  • Proven experience managing a technical team within a collaborative, matrixed environment
  • Registered Architect or PE licensed is preferred
  • Master’s degree preferred, but not required
  • Knowledge of coordinating engineering and architecture of complex building projects
  • Experience in team leadership with documented success in project execution
  • Practical familiarity with ICC building codes and ASCE standards
  • Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, Word, Outlook, and Excel
  • LEED and Green Globes experience and credentials preferred
