At CesiumAstro, we are developers and pioneers of out-of-the-box communication systems for satellites, UAVs, launch vehicles, and other space and airborne platforms. We take pride in our dynamic and cross-functional work environment, which allows us to learn, develop, and engage across our organization. If you are looking for hands-on, interactive, and autonomous work, CesiumAstro is the place for you. We are actively seeking passionate, collaborative, energetic, and forward-thinking individuals to join our team.

We are looking to add a Senior Staff Accountant to our finance team. If you enjoy working in a startup environment and are passionate about making an impact in a growing company, we would like to hear from you.

In this role, you will serve as CesiumAstro’s subject-matter expert on complex accounting matters, ensuring compliance with US GAAP, accurate financial reporting, and sound accounting judgment in the highly regulated aerospace and defense environment. This role plays a key part in supporting high-quality financial reporting, informed business decisions, and scalable accounting practices as the Company grows.

This is a hands-on role suited for someone who thrives effectively in a fast-paced environment, takes ownership of technical accounting issues from initial analysis through implementation, and translates U.S. GAAP requirements into clear, executable accounting conclusions.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Research, interpret, and apply US GAAP for complex and non-routine transactions, including revenue recognition, leases, stock-based compensation, R&D costs, and contract modifications.
  • Prepare and review technical accounting memos and position papers supporting significant transactions and judgments.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain company accounting policies and procedures.
  • Monitor new accounting standards and assess applicability and impact on aerospace, defense, and government contracting activities.
  • Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes related to technical accounting areas.
  • Assist with preparation of financial statements, footnote disclosures, and SEC filings.
  • Evaluate accounting implications of mergers, acquisitions, and strategic initiatives.
  • Review and approve complex journal entries, estimates, and accounting conclusions.
  • Serve as key technical accounting liaison with external auditors.
  • Prepare audit documentation and respond to technical accounting inquiries.
  • Support SOX readiness, internal controls design and documentation as the company scales.
  • Assist with compliance related to government audits, customer reporting, and regulatory requirements.
  • Identify accounting risks and recommend mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure accounting practices align with Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR), Cost Accounting Standards (CAS), and government contracting requirements.
  • Support accounting considerations related to long-term contracts, cost structures, and program accounting.
JOB REQUIREMENTS AND MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5–8 years of progressive technical accounting experience, including Big 4 or national public accounting and/or public company experience, preferably within aerospace, defense, regulated manufacturing, or IPO-ready environments.
  • Experience working with enterprise ERP systems such as NetSuite, Oracle, SAP, or similar platforms.
  • Proficiency with financial reporting and data analysis tools.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and SEC reporting requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing technical accounting memoranda and supporting accounting conclusions.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, with working knowledge of Word and PowerPoint.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
  • CPA or equivalent advanced accounting certification.
  • Experience with FAR/CAS and government contracting accounting.
