Qualifications

Spherion Vermont is seeking a full-time, motivated Senior Tax Associate who is excited about the opportunity to join a multifaceted team of CPAs, financial advisors, and bookkeepers in historic downtown Middlebury, Vermont. The Senior Tax Associate will assist with a wide range of duties including, but not limited to, preparing and reviewing tax returns, managing client communications and expectations, maintaining concise records, advising business and individual clients around tax planning matters, and staying up to date with tax laws. This is a full-time (40 hours a week with additional hours required during tax season), exempt position with in-office/hybrid flexibility available.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and review individual, corporate, partnership, trust, and non-profit tax returns
• Ensure the privacy of each client by following all company procedures regarding information handling
• Utilize technical accounting skills to handle complex tax issues
• Use accounting software to review and manage financial data
• Perform clerical duties related to tax preparation, such as organizing documents, and data entry
• Conduct research on tax laws and regulations to ensure compliance
• Support in the preparation of financial statements and reports
• Work alongside financial advisors on tax planning matters
• Mentor interns and junior associates playing a vital role in their career growth

Working hours: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Skills

• Master's in Accounting or Taxation preferred but not required

• Maintain a high level of integrity and trust
• Proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Suite, UltraTax, QuickBooks or other accounting software, and tax & accounting research tools
• General understanding of Artificial Intelligence applications and willingness to learn and play a vital role in the progression towards such for the firm.
• Track time and billing consistently and in a timely manner
• Highly motivated with the ability to solve problems individually and as a team
