Senior Tax Associate
CAPTRUST is seeking a Senior Tax Associate who will work with team members to provide high net worth families, individuals, and their related entities with tax compliance and tax consulting services. The position is responsible for adding to the team's efforts in all client activities including tax planning, compliance, and executing all tax projects effectively, as well as developing tax planning techniques and making general recommendations for additional services where appropriate.
Job Responsibilities
- Meet and correspond with clients or potential clients regularly
- Meet and correspond with other advisors or professionals including attorneys, CPAs, and investment advisors to collaborate on servicing shared clients
- Prepare tax basis financial statements for small, family-owned entities; this may include reviewing clients’ internal financials and proposing adjustments to correct bookkeeping errors
- Support with annual tax return preparation and review for individuals, trusts, and business entities using tax software; this may include reviewing prepared returns or preparing returns for review
- Research and analyze tax related compliance and planning questions utilizing available research tools
- Maintain and update client files and records as appropriate
- Build internal network to enhance efficiency of the team and promote tax service offering
- Add value to internal meetings by actively engaging in and being prepared for rigorous discussions centered around tax process, tax preparation issues and other matters that impact the effectiveness and efficiency of the tax team
- Effectively communicate with colleagues and superiors on project status, open items, and assistance needed
- Based on business need, ability to travel for occasional on-site meetings and collaboration
- Technology focused with opportunities to assist in developing and improving tax processes
Minimum Qualifications
- 3 or more years current public accounting experience preparing and reviewing income tax returns
- Thorough understanding of debits and credits and bookkeeping concepts
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, all Microsoft suite
- Proficiency in Adobe
Desired Qualifications / Skills
- Extensive knowledge of federal and state income tax laws
- Advanced degree in Tax from an accredited university (preferred)
- Supervisory experience preferred
- Self-starter who can get started on projects and coach direct reports
- Strong work ethic, professional demeanor, and client service focus
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to demonstrate highest personal ethics, integrity, and confidentiality
