Job summary

Doeren Mayhew in Birmingham, AL is seeking a Senior Tax Associate to join our tax practice. You will lead preparation of diverse tax returns and contribute to client service across industries including manufacturing, real estate, and retail.

The role requires at least 3 years of domestic tax experience in public accounting, strong communication and leadership skills, and comfort with mentoring staff and using firm technologies like CCH Axcess.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting.
• CPA license preferred but not required.
• Minimum of 3 years' experience in domestic tax at a public accounting firm.
• Ability to manage people with differing personalities.
• Demonstrated leadership and ability to train interns and staff.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.
• Adapt quickly to new technology platforms.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
• CCH Axcess software experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead preparation of various tax returns including individuals, C-Corp, S-Corp, partnerships, trust, estate, etc.
• Demonstrate advanced technical aptitude of taxation and handle complex returns and projects with confidence
• Utilize analytical and decision-making skills to solve complex technical issues
• Review the work of less experienced associates and provide guidance/mentorship to assist them in developing technical skills
• Build strong client relationships and ensure client needs are being met
• Maintain timely and accurate communication with team and clients to manage expectations, deadlines, and deliverables
• Ability to train new employees on firm technology, processes and procedures
• Present new ideas and improvements for ways of performing tasks in order to achieve firm and departmental goals
• Seek opportunities to participate in practice development to build network of referral sources
