Harrison Gray Search is partnering with one of the country's larger fee‑only, majority employee‑owned RIAs to hire multiple Senior Tax Strategy Advisors. The team is being built out because the firm has more private clients than tax professionals to serve them. If you have spent a decade or more doing individual, estate, and trust tax planning for wealthy families, and you want that work to sit inside a planning relationship instead of behind one, this is worth a conversation.
Tax strategy is a specialist discipline attached to the client team, not a service line that operates on its own. On larger relationships the firm pairs a lead advisor with a co‑advisor, and you join that team as the tax specialist. When tax planning season comes around, you are in the meeting delivering the tax piece directly to the client alongside the advisors, then handing the relationship back. The advisor owns the relationship. You own the tax.
That structure is the reason your recommendations get implemented. You are not writing memos and hoping someone acts on them. You are in the room when the client decides.
You will develop proactive tax planning strategies for the firm's private clients, households with $2.5 million in assets under management and above. The work is individual tax planning first, with estate planning and trust tax planning next to it. Many of these clients own businesses or have ventures on the side, so business tax comes up and is useful, but individual, estate, and trust is the center of the job.
You will carry roughly 200 households. The firm prepares returns for a majority of that book, and you will review and sign those returns while serving as the tax specialist across the whole group. The remainder are investment clients who generate planning questions that come to you through their advisors.
You will review tax plans and estimates, research complex transactions, and translate what you find into recommendations a client can act on and an advisor can implement. You will act as the point of contact with the IRS and state taxing authorities when notices land. Outside of season you will contribute to thought leadership through client presentations, articles, and workshops, and you will help shape how a growing tax practice operates.
Because the team is still being assembled, expect some breadth in the first year. Not every client is assigned to a tax professional yet, and questions will come from across the client base while the team fills out.
You are a seasoned tax professional who has spent your career serving individuals and families rather than corporations. You can explain a complex strategy to any client in language they will act on, and you are comfortable being in front of clients and advisors rather than behind a return.
You have worked remotely and you know you are good at it. This is a fully distributed team with no office to go into, and that suits some people and not others.
You are open to expanding your credentials. The firm is planning-focused, and the planning designation is part of how they serve clients.
RIA or wealth management firm experience is strongly preferred. Candidates already working inside a planning firm need no translation. Candidates coming from public accounting private client groups or family offices are welcome, provided the book is individual, estate, and trust rather than business.
The firm will hire a great candidate from anywhere in the country.
