Job summary

Waymo is seeking a Senior SRE/QA Engineer to join the Systems Engineering team on a hybrid schedule. You will ensure release-critical tests run on time, build and maintain healthy test pipelines, and debug failures across cross-functional teams.

The role emphasizes Python/SQL proficiency and strong debugging plus clear communication. Responsibilities include reducing tech debt, participating in retrospectives, and applying testing across domains such as perception and collision avoidance.

Qualifications

• A Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics, or other relevant technical field.
• 5+ years of experience in Site Reliability Engineering, QA engineering, Software Development in Test, or equivalent experience.
• Recent experience coding in Python and SQL.
• Excellent debugging skills with a passion for both “firefighting” and “fire prevention.”
• Solid written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

• Ensure release-critical tests execute on time and stay healthy
• Build health check pipelines for important tests and ensure testing infrastructure is running smoothly
• Debug pipeline failures with counterparts in the Simulation and SRE teams to identify root causes and prevent recurrence
• Execute retrospectives and actively work to reduce tech debt
• Work across testing methodologies including collision avoidance, rules of the road, perception, fault protection, and more
