Job summary

Waymo is seeking a Systems Security Engineer to own vehicle security requirements and architectures for the Waymo Driver platform. You will coordinate with OEMs and Systems Engineers to implement security across vehicle networks and interfaces, and define DV/VT plans for secure software and hardware updates.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, knowledge of vehicle security technologies, and experience in security validation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Electrical Engineering, Communications Engineering, or similar.
  • Strong understanding of vehicle communications and module security technology.
  • Knowledge of vehicle networks and embedded systems controlling these networks.
  • Ability to define targets and requirements with OEMs and Waymo adjacencies and execute DV/P validation.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and own comprehensive vehicle system security requirements aligned with the vehicle platform security strategy.
  • Collaborate with OEMs and Systems Engineers to define and implement security architecture.
  • Define and manage requirements for platform features based on security concepts (e.g., Digital Key, SOTA).
  • Create detailed security requirements for Waymo software interfaces to ensure secure communication with the vehicle platform.
  • Develop V&V plans, execute tests, analyze results, and resolve defects across platforms.
  • Oversee delivery timing of feature sets and software updates to the prototype fleet; troubleshoot issues.

Hardware Engineering is a diverse, innovative, and collaborative group of electrical, mechanical, reliability, software and vehicle engineers. We design, build, and perfect the products which are the eyes and ears of Waymo's autonomous driving technology, and integrate those products into vehicle platforms. We're seeking curious and talented teammates to keep us moving in the right direction.

This role follows a hybrid work schedule and you will report to a Systems Engineering Manager

You will:

  • Develop and own comprehensive vehicle system security requirements aligned with the high-level vehicle platform security strategy
  • Work with OEMs and adjacent Systems Engineers to define and implement the vehicle network and module security architecture
  • Define and manage requirements for vehicle platform features that are based on security concepts, such as Digital Key and SOTA
  • Create detailed security requirements for Waymo software interfaces to ensure secure communication with the vehicle platform
  • Develop Verification and Validation (V&V) plans, execute tests, analyze results, and resolve defects related to platform security across various platforms and prototype phases
  • Oversee the delivery timing of feature sets and software updates to the vehicle prototype fleet, and troubleshoot issues to ensure required capabilities

You have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Electrical Engineering, Communications Engineering, or similar
  • A thorough understanding of vehicle communications and module security technology (Autosar SecOC, Security relevant services in ISO14229-1 UDS, HSMs, etc)
  • A deep knowledge of vehicle communication networks and protocols (Physical and Application layer, e.g. CAN, FlexRay, LIN, Ethernet, DBCs, etc) and an understanding of the embedded systems that control via these networks
  • The ability to create & negotiate targets and requirements with OEMs and Waymo adjacencies and create and execute effective DVPs as part of the role

We prefer:

  • Hands-on experience implementing and testing automotive security mechanisms
  • Full lifecycle experience launching an automotive security critical system from definition to market
  • At least 5 years experience in an automotive security (or similar industry) role delivering software and/or hardware
  • Experience with CCC Digital Key implementation

Travel requirements:

  • 6-8 times / year - international, typically 1 week at a time

The expected base salary range for this full-time position across US locations is listed below. Actual starting pay will be based on job-related factors, including exact work location, experience, relevant training and education, and skill level.
