Senior Systems Engineer / Model-Based Systems Engineering Lead

The program team this engineer will join supports more than 20 projects across systems engineering, integration, and reliability engineering analysis for Naval Aviation. We are seeking a Senior Systems Engineer / Model-Based Systems Engineering Lead to support NAVAIR aircraft survivability and electronic warfare systems, primarily the AN/ALE-47 Countermeasures Dispensing System, Common Carriage program, and iASE Programmer development effort. The successful candidate will lead requirements development, system architecture, interface definition, integration planning, verification, and engineering coordination across government, platform, laboratory, and industry stakeholders. This role requires translating operational needs into clear, traceable, and verifiable technical requirements across hardware, software, cybersecurity, aircraft integration, testing, logistics, and sustainment activities in a collaborative defense acquisition environment. Work may include unclassified and classified activities, virtual and in-person technical meetings, and coordination with geographically distributed government organizations, aircraft platform teams, laboratories, and industry partners.

This position is expected to be approximately 75% remote; however, the selected candidate must reside near Patuxent River, MD, or King of Prussia, PA, for weekly in-person meetings and access to Secure Compartmented Information Facilities (SCIFs) at these locations.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Lead systems engineering support for NAVAIR aircraft survivability and electronic warfare programs, with emphasis on the AN/ALE-47 Common Carriage system and iASE Programmer.
• Develop, review, decompose, allocate, trace, and verify system, subsystem, hardware, software, interface, cybersecurity, and verification requirements.
• Develop and maintain SysML system architecture models, requirements relationships, interface models, and black-box and white-box system representations using MBSE tools.
• Analyze electrical, data, control, and communication interfaces, including Ethernet, MIL-STD-1553, RS-422, discrete signals, aircraft power, secure connectivity, and mission-data loading.
• Coordinate cybersecurity, information assurance, configuration management, integration, qualification, and verification activities with platform teams, technical authorities, developers, testers, laboratories, and government stakeholders.
• Review contractor designs, specifications, interface documentation, engineering-change proposals, drawings, bills of material, test documentation, and configuration-controlled baselines.
• Support technical reviews, test planning, environmental and electromagnetic-interference qualification, laboratory and aircraft integration, performance verification, and requirements closure.
• Prepare technical briefings, engineering recommendations, trade studies, risk assessments, impact analyses, action-item responses, and decision-support products for program leadership.
• Provide day-to-day technical leadership, mentoring, staffing input, and coordination with government organizations, aircraft platform teams, laboratories, logistics organizations, and industry partners.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in systems engineering, electrical engineering, computer engineering, aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related technical discipline, with at least 12 years of relevant experience.
• Professional experience performing systems engineering for complex hardware and software systems, including requirements development, decomposition, allocation, traceability, verification, architecture, interface definition, integration, and validation.
• Experience modeling systems using Cameo Systems Modeler and applying MBSE practices with SysML or comparable architecture and requirements-management tools.
• Ability to communicate complex technical topics clearly, independently lead technical meetings, resolve cross-organizational engineering issues, and provide defensible technical recommendations.
• Must be able to travel a few times per year and must have an active U.S. Government Secret security clearance or current eligibility for obtaining one.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting NAVAIR, Naval Air Systems Command acquisition programs, DoW aviation programs, aircraft survivability equipment, electronic warfare systems, countermeasure dispensing systems, avionics, mission systems, or embedded airborne hardware.
• Experience with the AN/ALE-47 Countermeasures Dispensing System or similar aircraft survivability systems, including platform integration, laboratory integration, environmental qualification, electromagnetic-interference testing, or formal verification activities.
• Experience with Teamwork Cloud, UAF, DOORS, Jama, requirements traceability and verification matrices, cybersecurity engineering, Risk Management Framework activities, secure communications, logistics engineering, sustainment deliverables, technical reviews, or OCSMP certification.
• Active U.S. Government Top Secret security clearance or current eligibility for obtaining one.
