Job summary

Peraton is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer in Maryland to provide critical data management support for the National Security program. Ideal candidates will have extensive experience in systems engineering, with a keen focus on data engineering solutions and compliance validation.

Program Overview

Provides IC data management support to modernize mega data repositories, dataflow management, data provenance and compliance validation, and streaming solutions.

About the Role

The project supports a suite of web-based applications that automate data management for IC data custodians. The products facilitate the capture of information and approvals that allow for the movement of data through the customer mission space in a compliant manner. These products are critical to standardize and simplify data movement as well as data reuse and integration with downstream tools. The work is performed at the Peraton contractor facility and offers flexible hours.

Responsibilities

• Outline, develop and implement data engineering solutions.
• Utilize a working knowledge of NiFi, be comfortable working in a Linux environment, interact with data ontologies (schemas), structured data types (XML, CSV, JSON), have database experience (MySQL/NoSQL) and analytic query experience with a platform.
• Work with numerous concurrent IC-provided data sets to identify, map and model data transformation routines supporting ingestion into the customer's corporate repositories and be able to document new and existing data flows supporting data routing implementations.
• A working knowledge of smart data systems and entitlements is highly desired, as well as experience with JAVA and Splunk.

Basic Qualifications

• TS/SCI with Polygraph level clearance is required.
• Twenty (20) years experience as a SE in programs and contracts of similar scope, type and complexity is required. Bachelor’s degree in System Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering Science, Engineering Management, or related discipline from an accredited college or university is required. Five (5) years of additional SE experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree.
• Demonstrated experience supporting Systems Engineering efforts.
• Able to implement comprehensive SOA solutions.
• Able to conduct and/or approve end-to-end system trade analyses to optimize system operations over its life cycle through the proper balance of non-functional system performance areas.
• Able to ensure effective, periodic review and control of the evolving configuration of a system, both hardware and software components and associated documentation, during the life of the system.
• Able to develop system design alternatives that consider life cycle cost, reuse, complexity, risk, system expansion, and growth.
• Able to maintain knowledge of current and evolving agency, national, and international standards applicable to the system development of interest.
• Able to recommend a preferred solution based on selection criteria.
• Able to provide technical direction for the full systems engineering life cycle.
• Able to fully define interfaces in terms of origination, destination, stimulus, and data characteristics for software.

Additional Desired Qualifications

• Working knowledge of smart data systems and entitlements.
• Experience with JAVA and Splunk is highly desired.
• Experience with current and evolving agency dataflow and reporting solutions.
• Experience in developing system performance, availability, scalability, manageability, and security requirements for mid‑to‑large scale systems.
• Experience in leading agile development models.
• Experience integrating COTS and GOTS products from multiple vendors.
• Experience developing and deploying storage within clustered or cloud environments.
• Experience planning and integrating secure compliant solutions based on legal, policy, and compliance directives.

Target Salary Range: $176,000 - $282,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual's experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
