Job summary

Talent Stack is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer – Product Owner to support a mission-critical satellite ground systems program. This role sits at the intersection of systems engineering, technical leadership, and Agile product ownership.

You will work across engineering teams, program leadership, and customer stakeholders to define the product vision, translate mission needs into technical requirements, and drive execution of a critical ground software capability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in STEM; Masters preferred.
• 5+ years of relevant professional experience.
• Experience as Product Owner/Product Manager/Technical Lead in an Agile environment.
• Experience with satellite ground systems, mission operations, or systems engineering.
• Experience with requirements management.
• Experience with technical risk management.
• Experience with Jira and Confluence.
• Familiarity with DevSecOps and CI/CD environments.
• Active TS/SCI security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Own the vision, strategy, and roadmap for a ground system component.
• Serve as a technical link between Product Manager, Chief Engineer, and stakeholders.
• Plan and execute PIs in a SAFe Agile environment.
• Translate customer needs and mission objectives into technical requirements and designs.
• Own and prioritize the team backlog balancing new capabilities and technical debt.
• Support requirements management, interface definition, and risk management.
• Lead design reviews, readiness reviews, demonstrations, and presentations.
• Develop technical documentation and product strategies.
• Collaborate across systems, software, integration, and test teams to deliver.

Senior Systems Engineer – Product Owner | Satellite Ground Systems

About the Opportunity

We are seeking a Senior Systems Engineer – Product Owner to support a mission-critical satellite ground systems program.

This role sits at the intersection of systems engineering, technical leadership, and Agile product ownership. You will work across engineering teams, program leadership, and customer stakeholders to define the product vision, translate mission needs into technical requirements, and drive execution of a critical ground software capability.

What You’ll Do

• Own and communicate the vision, strategy, and roadmap for a ground system component
• Serve as a key technical link between the Product Manager, Chief Engineer, engineering teams, and stakeholders
• Partner with Scrum Masters and engineering teams to plan and execute Program Increments (PIs) in a SAFe Agile environment
• Translate customer needs, mission objectives, and operational concepts into technical requirements, system designs, and acceptance criteria
• Own and prioritize the team backlog, balancing new capabilities, technical debt, and program priorities
• Support systems engineering activities including requirements management, interface definition, and technical risk management
• Lead design reviews, readiness reviews, demonstrations, and technical presentations
• Develop technical documentation, implementation guidance, and product strategies
• Work across systems, software, integration, and test teams to drive successful delivery

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM), Masters Degree Preferred.
• 5+ years of relevant professional experience
• Experience as a Product Owner, Product Manager, Technical Lead, or similar technical leadership role in an Agile development environment
• Experience with satellite ground systems, mission operations, or systems engineering
• Experience with systems engineering functions such as:
• Requirements management
• Technical risk management
• Experience with Jira and Confluence
• Familiarity with DevSecOps and CI/CD environments
• Active and transferable U.S. government-issued TS/SCI security clearance

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience leading multi-disciplinary engineering teams across systems, software, integration, and test
• Satellite Ground System development or operations experience
• Experience with automated testing and software factory tools, including Cucumber, Gherkin, or Zephyr
• Software development experience with Java, C++, Python, or similar languages
• Strong background working within SAFe Agile environments
