Job summary

IBM Consulting in the United States seeks an Application Developer specializing in Application Modernization to plan, direct, and coordinate modernization activities across client environments. You will integrate cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, IBM Cloud, Google Cloud), migrate legacy codebases, design secure, scalable databases, and build RESTful APIs with OpenAPI specifications.

Qualifications

Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, IBM Cloud, Google Cloud) and containerization using Docker/Kubernetes.
Experience with designing and implementing microservices architectures and building/ consuming RESTful APIs and OpenAPI specifications.
Migration of legacy codebases to modern platforms and languages, including incorporating generative AI capabilities into workflows.
Design and implement secure, scalable databases with testing, debugging, and performance optimization.

Your role and responsibilities

As an Application Developer specializing in Application Modernization, you will plan, direct, and coordinates activities for information systems, conducts systems analysis, and develops system architectures. You will collaborate with architects and consultants to execute modernization strategies and ensure technical feasibility.

Your primary responsibilities will include:

Integrate Cloud Platforms: Integrate applications with cloud platforms including AWS, Azure, IBM Cloud, and Google Cloud. Apply DevOps practices and tooling to support continuous integration, delivery, and monitoring.
Migrate Legacy Codebases: Migrate legacy codebases (e.g., COBOL, RPG, C++) to modern platforms and languages. Incorporate generative AI capabilities into application workflows where applicable.
Design Database Solutions: Design and implement secure, scalable, and maintainable database solutions. Support testing, debugging, and performance optimization throughout the development lifecycle.
Enable Seamless Integration: Build and consume RESTful APIs and OpenAPI specifications to enable seamless integration across systems.

Cloud and Containerization: Experience with cloud platforms including AWS, Azure, IBM Cloud, and Google Cloud, as well as containerization using Docker and Kubernetes.
Microservices Architecture: Experience with designing and implementing microservices architectures, including building and consuming RESTful APIs and OpenAPI specifications.
Legacy Codebase Migration: Experience with migrating legacy codebases to modern platforms and languages, including incorporating generative AI capabilities into application workflows.
Database Solution Design: Experience with designing and implementing secure, scalable, and maintainable database solutions, including support for testing, debugging, and performance optimization.

Must possess and have the ability to maintain active Top Secret Clearance with SCI access

Preferred technical and professional experience

Generative AI Capabilities: Experience with incorporating generative AI capabilities (Watson, Azure OpenAI, Bedrock, Vertex AI) into application workflows, enabling seamless integration and enhanced functionality.
DevOps Practices: Exposure to DevOps practices and tooling, supporting continuous integration, delivery, and monitoring in cloud-based environments.
Database Optimization: Experience with designing and implementing secure, scalable, and maintainable database solutions, including support for testing, debugging, and performance optimization.

The compensation range and benefits for this position are based on a full-time schedule for a full calendar year. The salary will vary depending on your job-related skills, experience and location. Pay increment and frequency of pay will be in accordance with employment classification and applicable laws. For part time roles, your compensation and benefits will be adjusted to reflect your hours. Benefits may be pro-rated for those who start working during the calendar year.
