The role involves server administration across Linux and Windows, and backup/recovery operations with tools like Commvault and RMAN.

The candidate should have a Bachelor’s in CS/EE or related field with about 5+ years of experience, and be prepared to operate in a secure, mission-driven environment with escalation

Responsibilities

• Perform duties with minimal oversight from senior team members.
• Guide and train lower-tier teammates to meet mission goals.
• Manage, install, monitor, and troubleshoot systems supporting DVA data protection.
• Help prevent data loss and minimize breach impacts using data protection strategies.
• Utilize encryption and storage solutions (HDD/SSD/Cloud/Backup Appliances).
• Administer servers (Linux/Windows) and backup apps (e.g., Commvault, RMAN).

Responsibilities

• Perform assigned duties with a minimal level of oversight and guidance from senior tier technical team members.
• Guide the activities and training for lower Tier team members to achieve assigned mission goals.
• Manage, install, monitor, operate, maintain, administrate, troubleshoot, repair, and assist in the design of associated systems and software in support of Department of Veteran Affairs (DVA) data protection. DVA data protection systems support VA mission and production operations by providing platforms and services that safeguard data and ensure the DVA continuity of operations.
• Help prevent data loss, theft, corruption, and minimize damages caused by a breach or disaster using a variety of data protection strategies and recovery methods.
• Utilize data encryption, data storage systems (e.g., HDD, SSD, Hybrid Flash, Cloud, Backup Appliance, Optical, etc.).
• Server administration (e.g., Linux, Windows, etc.) and data backup & restore applications (e.g., Commvault, Oracle Recovery Manager, etc.).

Qualifications

• Proficient and capable of demonstrating advanced skills in Microsoft Windows operating systems (ref: Windows Server Administration Fundamentals Training).
• Proficient and capable of demonstrating advanced skill level in administration, maintenance, and repair of data protection storage systems assigned to data protection team. (e.g., Cisco Scale Protect, EMC/Dell Data Domain, IBM Tape Libraries, NetApp Storage, etc.).
• Proficient and capable of demonstrating intermediate skills in Linux operating systems (e.g., Linux Essentials, Linux +, etc.).
• Proficient and capable of demonstrating intermediate skill level with scripting (e.g., Shell Scripting, etc.).
• Proficient in advanced problem identification, diagnosis, resolution, capable of identifying need for Tier-4 escalation and capable of coordinating escalation with detailed change management records.

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, electronics engineering or related technical discipline and 5+ years’ work experience.
• Eight (8) years of additional relevant experience may be substituted for education (13 years total).

Clearance

• The ability to pass a Tier 4/HIGH Background Investigation.
