Job summary

Fishbeck, Thompson, Carr & Huber is seeking a Senior Surveyor based in Toledo, OH to lead field survey operations and coordinate multi-project survey efforts across transportation, municipal, and construction programs.

You will interpret plats and drawings, perform complex calculations, and mentor junior staff while collaborating with engineers and clients to deliver accurate, compliant surveying services.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or related field required.
  • Licensed Professional Surveyor in Ohio or eligible to obtain licensure.
  • 5+ years of progressive surveying experience with field leadership.
  • Strong knowledge of boundary, topo, construction, and control surveys.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee field survey operations with accuracy and efficiency.
  • Plan and coordinate survey projects, including scheduling and resources.
  • Interpret legal documents, plats, and drawings to determine boundaries.
  • Perform complex calculations for boundary, topo, construction, and control surveys.
  • Review survey data for compliance with standards and regulations.
  • Collaborate with engineers, PMs, and clients to develop scopes and workplans.
  • Mentor junior survey staff and promote technical growth.
  • Prepare and review survey reports, plats, and client documentation.
  • Establish workflows, QA/QC, and best practices for a growing team.
  • Assist in project budgeting, estimating, and proposal development.
  • Grow Fishbeck's presence in Ohio through partnerships with ODOT and local agencies.

Overview

Senior Surveyor - Ohio based in Toledo, OH. The role supports surveying within Fishbeck's Ohio market, focusing on field leadership, project planning, and collaboration with engineers, project managers, and clients to deliver surveying services across transportation, municipal, and construction projects.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and oversee field survey operations, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.

  • Interpret legal documents, plats, and engineering drawings to determine property boundaries.
  • Perform complex calculations and data analysis for boundary, topographic, construction, and control surveys.
  • Review and validate survey data for compliance with industry and regulatory standards.
  • Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and clients to develop scope and workplans for a variety of projects.
  • Mentor junior survey staff and promote technical growth.
  • Prepare and review survey reports, plats, and documentation for clients and agencies.
  • Establish survey workflows, QA/QC processes, and best practices for a growing team.
  • Assist in project budgeting, estimating, and proposal development.
  • Help grow Fishbeck's presence in Ohio by strengthening relationships with ODOT, counties, municipalities, and local partners.
What We're Looking For
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
  • Licensed Professional Surveyor in Ohio.
  • 5+ years of progressive surveying experience.
  • Strong understanding of boundary, topographic, construction, and control surveys.
  • Skilled in robotic total stations, RTK GPS, and data collectors.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D and / or Microstation
  • Proven ability to lead field crews and manage daily operations.
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and organizational abilities.

Minimum Physical Requirements

Must be able to work outdoors in various weather conditions, lift up to 50 lbs., walk or stand for extended periods, and perform tasks requiring bending, kneeling, and climbing. Good vision, hand-eye coordination, and spatial awareness are essential.
