Job summary

UVA Health Haymarket Medical Center is seeking a Surgical Assistant Senior to join our operating team. This role supports the attending surgeon as a first assist, across Orthopedics, General, Vascular and Gynecologic cases, with emphasis on patient-centered care and safety.

Qualified candidates have 4+ years of experience, relevant certification or RN background, and Virginia board registration. On-call duties rotate, and a sign-on bonus is included.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Graduate of a recognized first assist program with National Certification or RN required.
• Must be registered with the Virginia Board of Medicine as a Surgical Assistant.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience assisting preferred.
• Ability to scrub independently for Orthopedics, General, Vascular, Gynecologic cases.

Responsibilities

• Assist surgical team as first assist across cases.
• Assess patient data and age-appropriate needs.
• Demonstrate sterile technique and instrumentation knowledge.
• Collaborate with leadership and ensure timely communication.
• Cover scrub call as needed.
