Job summary

Saab, Inc. is seeking a Senior Supplier Quality Engineer to lead supplier quality initiatives in Michigan. You will evaluate suppliers, monitor performance metrics, and drive corrective actions to ensure adherence to AS9102 First Article inspections and quality standards.

  • Experience with supplier quality management systems and auditing.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and statistical tools.
  • Experience with AS9102 First Article Inspections.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage suppliers.
  • Ability to travel to supplier locations for on-site assessments.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and regulations.
  • Experience driving quality improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with relevant quality standards and regulations.
  • Mentor junior quality engineers in supplier quality management.

Job description

Responsibilities
  • Supplier selection and evaluation: Assess potential suppliers’ capabilities through technical reviews, quality system audits, and site visits to ensure they can meet quality requirements.
  • Supplier performance monitoring: Track supplier quality metrics such as defect rates, delivery performance, and compliance to identify improvement opportunities and hold suppliers accountable to quality standards.
  • Quality improvement initiatives: Develop and implement corrective action plans with suppliers to address quality issues, including root cause analysis and preventative measures.
  • Supplier development: Provide technical guidance and training to suppliers to improve manufacturing processes and quality systems.
  • New product introduction: Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure new supplier products meet design specifications and quality requirements throughout the development process.
  • Perform reviews and approve supplier AS9102 First Article Inspections.
  • Incoming inspection oversight: Review and approve incoming inspection procedures and ensure proper quality checks are performed on received materials.
  • Source inspection: Perform source inspections at supplier facilities.
  • Non-conformance management: Investigate and resolve non-conforming product issues, including initiating corrective actions and managing supplier corrective action plans.
  • Data analysis and reporting: Utilize statistical tools to analyze quality data, identify trends, and generate reports on supplier performance.
  • Compliance management: Ensure suppliers adhere to relevant quality standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Mentorship and leadership: Provide guidance and coaching to junior quality engineers on supplier quality management practices.
  • Travel up to 50% annually, as required.

Location: Grayling, MI or Auburn Hills, MI (on-site) and requires up to 50% travel.

Compensation Range

Compensation Range: $92,200 - $115,300 The compensation range provided is a general guideline. When extending an offer, Saab, Inc. considers factors including (but not limited to) the role and associated responsibilities, location, and market and business considerations, as well as the candidate's work experience, key skills, and education/training.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality, or a related field with six plus years of experience, or a Master’s degree with four plus years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with supplier quality management systems and auditing practices.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and statistical tools.
  • Experience with AS9102 First Article Inspections.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively engage suppliers at all levels.
  • Ability to travel to supplier locations for on-site assessments, audits, and inspections.
  • Knowledge of relevant industry standards and regulations.
  • Experience driving quality improvements.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Department of War (DoW) programs, procedures, and processes.
  • ASQ AS9100/ISO 9001 Certified Lead Auditor Certification.
  • IPC or other relevant industry certifications.
