The role works with Manufacturing Engineering, R&D, Sourcing, Quality, Supply Chain, Marketing and Finance to deliver technical solutions while mentoring junior engineers. Travel up to 25% may be required.

Qualifications

  • BS degree in Engineering or equivalent is required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of meaningful work experience in a regulated industry is required (medical device industry preferred).
  • Understanding of manufacturing process characterization, development, and validation, required.
  • Understanding of GD&T and quality requirements (21 CFR 820, ISO 13485) preferred.
  • Experience with supplier management, supplier qualification/selection and process improvement preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Own and deliver development, characterization, and validation of components and sub-assembly processes at suppliers for new product development (NPD) projects and sustaining production within Robotics and Digital Solutions.
  • Collaborate with multi-functional teams (Manufacturing Engineering, R&D, Sourcing, Quality, Supply Chain, Marketing, Finance) to provide technical solutions optimized for manufacturing, product performance, and cost.
  • Apply engineering principles, world-class manufacturing techniques, statistics, and risk management to resolve complex technical challenges.
  • Drive suppliers to improve process performance meeting business requirements using Six Sigma, Lean, SPC and effective negotiations.
  • Identify, manage priorities and direct external suppliers for tooling, manufacturing and inspection of direct material components.
  • Ensure robust requirements cascade from Design to Suppliers and participate in corrective actions.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on cost reduction, capacity/efficiency and supply chain streamlining.
  • Participate in special projects as requested by Management.

Job Description:

Johnson & Johnson is recruiting for a Senior Supplier Engineer in Santa Clara, CA (fully on-site).

The Senior Supplier Engineer will function as an integral member of a development team. This position will be responsible for designing, developing, and validating manufacturing solutions for Direct Material component and assembly manufacturing processes and ensuring scale-up of robust manufacturing solutions to support long-term production. This role will work both internally and externally to develop Johnson and Johnson’s next generation of Robotic & Digital Solutions and may help mentor/develop junior engineers.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Own and deliver the development, characterization, and validation of components and sub-assembly processes at suppliers for new product development (NPD) projects and sustaining production within the Robotics and Digital Solutions franchise.
  • Work in a design team setting, collaborating with multi-functional teams (represented by Manufacturing Engineering, R&D, Sourcing, Quality, Supply Chain, Marketing, and Finance) by providing technical solutions to direct material component manufacturing and assembly processes that are optimized for manufacturing, product performance, and cost.
  • Apply engineering principles, world-class manufacturing techniques, statistics, and risk management to resolve complex technical challenges.
  • Drive suppliers to continually improve their business and manufacturing process performance to meet business requirements for supplier excellence using a collection of best practices in project management, Six Sigma, Lean, SPC and negotiation by supporting these efforts with minimal managerial guidance at multiple suppliers simultaneously.
  • Identify, manage, and provide priorities and direction to external suppliers to satisfy manufacturing and development requirements for tooling, manufacturing, and inspections of direct material components.
  • Responsible for ensuring robust requirements cascade from Design to Suppliers
  • Support corrective actions for supplier process by driving suppliers to true root cause analysis and corrective and Preventive actions.
  • Support/participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on material cost reduction, capacity/efficiency improvement, and streamlining of supply chain.
  • Participate in special projects as requested by Management
  • Other duties as required
Qualifications:
  • BS degree in Engineering or equivalent is required
  • Minimum of five (5) years of meaningful work experience in a regulated industry is required (medical device industry preferred)
  • Understanding of manufacturing process characterization, development, and validation, required
  • Understanding of engineering drawing interpretation, i.e., GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) required
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing technologies, required: Plastic injection molding, Extrusion, Machining, SMT, PCB, Electrical Components, or assembly preferred
  • Demonstrated project management experience, preferred
  • Solid understanding of quality requirements/documents such as statistical process control, capability analysis, FMEA’s, etc., preferred
  • Understanding of product design & DFM/A (Design for Manufacturing & Assembly), preferred
  • Experience with supplier management, supplier qualification/selection, and process improvement with suppliers, preferred
  • Root cause analysis, preferred
  • Excellent knowledge of 21 CFR part 820 and ISO 13485
  • Solid understanding of regulatory requirements regarding the design, manufacture, and release of medical devices, preferred
  • Up to 25% domestic and international travel required

The anticipated base pay range for this position is :

$109,000.00 - $174,800.00

Additional Description for Pay Transparency:

Subject to the terms of their respective plans, employees are eligible to participate in the Company’s consolidated retirement plan (pension) and savings plan (401(k)).

This position is eligible to participate in the Company’s long-term incentive program.

Vacation –120 hours per calendar year

Sick time - 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Colorado –48 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington –56 hours per calendar year

Holiday pay, including Floating Holidays –13 days per calendar year

Work, Personal and Family Time - up to 40 hours per calendar year

Parental Leave – 480 hours within one year of the birth/adoption/foster care of a child

Bereavement Leave – 240 hours for an immediate family member: 40 hours for an extended family member per calendar year

Caregiver Leave – 80 hours in a 52-week rolling period10 days
