Job summary

Sargent & Lundy seeks a Substation Physical Designer in Houston, TX to join a project team focused on high and extra high voltage substations. Hybrid work arrangement available, with a mix of in-office and remote work.

The role includes preparing general arrangement drawings, electrical equipment plans, grounding, shielding, BOMs, and conduit details, while applying client standards and incorporating vendor data. A minimum of 10 years’ design experience is required.

Qualifications

• Minimum 10 years of substation physical design experience.
• Associate’s Degree in Drafting or equivalent technical experience.
• Proficient with AutoCAD and MicroStation.
• Ability to visualize parts in 3D without computer aid.

Responsibilities

• Prepare Substation General Arrangement drawings.
• Create Substation Electrical Equipment Plans and Sections.
• Develop Grounding, Lightning Shielding, Conduit and Cable Tray plans.
• Produce Bill of Material and below grade conduit plans.
• Incorporate vendor information into design deliverables and conduct client walkdowns.

Responsibilities

This position allows for a hybrid work schedule with a mix of work spent in office and working remote from home.

Due to continued growth, our Electric Grid Infrastructure Services Group is seeking an experienced Substation Physical Designer.

As a Substation Physical Designer, you will be working in a project team environment with engineers and other designers involved in high and extra high voltage substation design. Responsibilities will include the preparationof the following substation drawings:

• Substation General Arrangement


• Substation Electrical Equipment Plans


• Substation Section Views (Elevations)


• Substation Detailed Bill of Material


• Substation Lightning Stroke Shielding Plan


• Substation Grounding Plan


• Substation Conduit, Electrical Connection and Grounding Details


• Substation Below Grade Conduit/Raceway Plan


• Control Building Equipment, Cable Tray, Lighting, Grounding Plans and Section

Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Interpreting and incorporating vendor information into design deliverables.


• Performing walkdowns at client facilities.


• Applying Client's standards related to the work.

Qualifications

Education/Experience Requirements:

• A minimum of 10 years of substation physical design experience.


• An Associate’s Degree in Drafting, or a high school diploma and 2 or more years drafting course work or equivalent technical experience.


• Proficient with AutoCAD and MicroStation.


• Ability to visualize parts in 3D without the aid of the computer.

Valued Knowledge/Skills:

• An Associate's Degree in Computer Aided Design.


• Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.


• Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology, including the ability to relate various equipment to a technical design.

Compensation Range

$77,890 - $118,999
