Job summary

Burns & McDonnell in San Juan seeks a Lead Substation Engineer to develop design deliverables for high-voltage substations from concept to construction under a licensed PE. You will guide projects through budget constraints, design factors, and client needs.

Responsibilities include creating design packages, electrical studies, field support, and proposal development. Strong communication and leadership are essential; PE or EIT is preferred.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited degree required (Electrical/Mechanical/Civil) and 3 years substation engineering experience; consulting preferred.
• Alternative: Engineering Technology degree from ABET program with FE exam and 3 years experience.

Responsibilities

• Supports substation projects from concept through completion.
• Prepares substation design packages (layout, relaying, control, grounding, lighting, security).
• Develops calculations (insulation, DC systems, cable sizing, voltage drop).
• Creates cost estimates, BOMs, equipment specs, and deliverables.
• Applies IEEE, NESC standards; supports field inspections.
• Assists client presentations, reports, and project status visuals.
