Job summary

Cowboy Space Corporation is seeking a Sr. Structures Engineer to own the design of primary tanks and welded structures for our launch vehicle.

You will translate pressure, thermal, and vehicle loads into lightweight, test-ready hardware and collaborate across analysis, propulsion, manufacturing, and test teams. You will advance design practices, manage interfaces, and take full ownership of structures from concept through fabrication, including reviews and verification activities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or related field.
• 7+ years designing and developing structures for flight vehicles or high-performance hardware.
• Ownership of metallic tanks, pressure vessels, or thin-walled welded structures.
• Strong fundamentals in mechanics, stability, materials behavior, and joint design.
• Proficiency with CAD, drawings, GD&T, and tolerance analysis.
• Able to justify design decisions with hand calculations and analyze results.
• Experience with manufacturing, inspection, and test teams.
• U.S. citizen/national or lawful permanent resident or eligible under ITAR.

Responsibilities

• Own full lifecycle of primary tanks and welded structures from requirements to flight readiness.
• Design tank components with clear load paths and defined interfaces.
• Perform first-order sizing and design trades balancing performance, mass, manufacturability, cost, and schedule.
• Work with analysts to verify strength, buckling, fatigue, and damage tolerance.
• Develop CAD models, drawings, and specs with material, GD&T, welds, and inspections.
• Collaborate with manufacturing and welding to enable fabrication and assembly.
• Define verification requirements and support testing and acceptance criteria.
• Support fabrication/test operations and drive design improvements.
• Lead design reviews, manage interfaces, and mentor engineers.
