Job summary

WGI seeks a Senior Structure Engineer to join our Transportation team across Florida offices including Tampa, Fort Lauderdale, Orlando and Raleigh. This role requires 10+ years of experience in transportation structures with a focus on bridge design.

The successful candidate will contribute to FDOT/NCDOT projects, work in a fast-paced multi-disciplinary environment, and hold a PE license in FL or NC or be able to obtain within six months.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an accredited college.
• Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in FL or NC or ability to obtain within 6 months.
• Proficiency in structural software for bridge design (Leap Bridge, Conspan, RC-Pier, STAAD, MDX, Midas, FB-MultiPier, MathCAD, Microstation).
• Familiarity with FDOT/NCDOT design standards and plans criteria.
• Strong communication and ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

• Develop engineering designs and plans for bridges, retaining walls, and other structures.
• Prepare engineering documents including bridge reports and load rating calculations.
• Participate in client meetings, marketing pursuits, and project presentations.
• Coordinate with other disciplines and firms on complex projects.
• Review work for accuracy and completeness; assist with business development as needed.

In this position you will assist in the development of transportation design projects for clients such as FDOT/NCDOT, tolling authorities and municipalities. A strong background in Florida or North Carolina DOT design policies and procedures is preferred. The candidate will work in a fast-paced engineering environment where projects may be derived from a number of delivery methods including conventional design-bid-build projects and alternative delivery. Over the last two decades, WGI has delivered a variety of transportation projects including some of the largest and most complex interstate projects in the state of Florida or North Carolina. As a firm we continue to grow and look forward to the opportunity to add talented engineers who are eager to work on exciting projects and grow professionally themselves.

• Develop engineering designs and plans for various structures including reinforced concrete bridges, prestressed/post-tensioned concrete bridges, steel plate and box girder bridges, retaining walls, box culverts, sign/signal structures, sound barrier walls, and other transportation related structures.
• Assist in the creation of engineering documents including Bridge Development Reports, Bridge Load Rating Calculation, and Design-Build Technical Proposals.
• Participate in and assist with client meetings, marketing pursuits, writing letters of interest, and project presentations.
• Coordinate with other engineering disciplines and other firms on complex interchange projects.
• Review engineering work produced by other engineers to ensure designs, plans and calculations are complete and accurate.
• Assist with business development activities including marketing and proposal preparation, as necessary.

• Licensed as a Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Florida or North Carolina or have the ability to obtain within 6 months of employment.

• Familiarity with FDOT/NCDOT plans preparation criteria and design standards.
• Strong work ethic and ability to work independently and work on large multi-discipline engineering teams.
• Ability to communicate technical concepts to others in the engineering profession.
• Possess advanced oral and written communication skills.
• Effectively coordinate, perform, and complete multiple duties and assignments concurrently and in a timely manner.
• Travel to other office locations may be required.
