Role Description

Arcadis is a leading firm delivering sustainable design, engineering, and consultancy solutions for natural and built assets.

We are searching for a Senior Structural Engineer to join our growing Resilience Water Team in Virginia, Maryland, Florida, Washington D.C., or Georgia.

Role Accountabilities

In this role you will lead water/wastewater design engineering and construction projects. Responsibilities include:

  • Mentor entry‑level and junior structural engineering staff.
  • Organize and conduct structural related engineering investigations, calculations, and planning work.
  • Research feasibility of alternative design approaches, site conditions and regulatory agency specifications.
  • Lead the development of calculations, plans, specifications, requests for proposals, and other contract documents.
  • Work directly with a variety of engineering disciplines, office/project staff, client and sub‑contractors throughout the project life cycle, coordinate meetings, conduct client presentations and prepare written reports.
  • Exercise judgment on details of work and in making preliminary selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives.
  • Manage the production of engineering and construction drawings, specifications, bid packages, and cost estimates for projects.
  • Function as an Engineer of Record, Task Manager or Project Engineer on projects to manage budgets, schedules, lead deliverables, and facilitate coordination for timely completion and submission of projects.

Some travel may be required for project site visits, client meetings, general planning purposes or to oversee construction activities, depending on project staffing needs.

Qualifications & Experience
Required Qualifications
  • 10 years of structural engineering experience in Water / Wastewater.
  • Bachelor's degree in Structural or Civil Engineering (Structural emphasis).
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License in Structural or Civil/Structural.
Key Attributes

The ideal candidate should possess strong structural analysis and design skills, proficiency in tools such as STAAD Pro and other structural software applications, excellent technical writing and editing abilities, and experience in preparing, reviewing, and approving project drawings, specifications, schedules, and cost estimates. Proficiency in AutoCAD/REVIT and building codes such as IBC, ACI is essential.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering focusing on structural engineering. Experience in water/wastewater sector, minimum 15 years of practical involvement in relevant projects. PE license in multiple states (including Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Tennessee, Louisiana, Mississippi, Arkansas, North Carolina, South Carolina, Puerto Rico) and SE license with NCEES record mentioning MLSE are pluses. Successful completion of NCEES 16‑Hour structural exam and proficiency in MATHCAD preferred.
