Job summary

Geoquest USA, Inc., based in North Richland Hills, TX, is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer (SSE) to lead design and analysis efforts for mechanically stabilized earth wall projects. Geoquest USA, Inc. (formerly The Reinforced Earth Company) is Geoquestgnized as the inventor and market leader of the MSE (Mechanically Stabilized Earth) retaining wall industry. The company provides the design and supply of materials of proprietary retaining wall systems and earth related technologies to contractors and owners for use in civil engineering. Our company works as a sub-contractor/material supplier on DOT and privately owned projects. We perform all duties associated with our jobs from sales, marketing, civil engineering/design, supply, and construction support.

The Senior Structural Engineer (SSE) reports to the Director of Engineering and is responsible for the design and analysis of projects.

Responsibilities include:

• Division responsibilities for the SSE include local technical QA/QC, assist in training for new and existing staff (if needed, with the assistance from corporate), communicating technical information in support of Sales and Operations. In addition, administrative reviews of reporting staff performance.
• Perform the engineering design and analysis of selected products designed by Geoquest, in innovative and cost saving methods.
• Ensure the timely completion and distribution of output of assigned projects. visualize and create the necessary details pertinent to the development of the construction plans and shop drawings for the various products designed by Geoquest.
• Direct communication and coordination of design projects for a specific region with its Regional Manager or Division Manager.
• Attendance at weekly engineering meetings to discuss the status of design work for assigned region with the Engineering Manager.
• Incorporate and communicate information supplied by the Owner to develop plans and details supplied by Geoquest.
• Identify design issues between Geoquest products and owner documents and coordinate with persons outside of company.
• Provide quality control of design and drafting work of assigned projects, as well as final design check for all projects that require a professional Engineer seal.
• If the SSE is not signing directly as PE, the SSE may provide peer review of project design packages developed by other engineering staff.

Secondary Responsibilities:

• Use of wall draw program and drafting of wall elevation views and details for bid and final projects based on data provided by the owner.
• Use of the quantity extract program and other facilities to prepare and/or review material takeoffs.
• Attendance at monthly engineering technical meetings and in-house training and, as needed, prepare technical presentations.
• Perform extra-department responsibilities assigned by Engineering Manager or Director of Engineering in areas of administration, human resources, training, technical standards and design tools, product packages, and/or procedures and standardization.
• Developing Responsibilities:
• Application of technical abilities to improve and innovate upon Geoquest product line.
• Work with Engineering Manager or Director of Engineering to improve procedures and enhance methods of sound and economical design within the Division or company.
• Communicate with potential clients during project development to inform and encourage usage of RE products.
• Advanced knowledge of design and analysis of non-standard products.
• Perform supervisory/leadership role to design engineers and designers.

Work Environment / Physical Demands: The responsibilities will be carried out in a traditional office environment under traditional office conditions. Employee will be familiar with and observe safety and security procedures and use equipment and materials properly.

Must be able to coordinate or lead employees among different levels of the organization.

Education/Skill/Experience:

• Minimum of a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil/Structural/Geotechnical Engineering from an accredited school of engineering
• At least five (5) years of applicable engineering experience within Geoquest.
• The SSE shall be a registered professional Engineer (PE) in good standing and may be required to obtain registration in other states in his division.
• The individual must have a clear understanding of the scope of work required for projects and carried out by the engineering department.
• The SSE must be capable of managing Regional Engineers, Engineers, Designers and/or Drafters and the ability to perform all their responsibilities.
• A full understanding of in-house engineering spreadsheet programs, software, and AutoCAD programs to the degree that engineering evaluations, from simple to difficult, can be performed.
• Ability to supervise design work in a specific division, discuss design, and take initiative within predetermined guidelines.
• Ability to work in coordination with other personnel in the assigned company’s Division and able to communicate, both written and verbally, with other technical and construction personnel outside the Division and company.
• Ability to comprehend and apply principles of civil engineering (structural and geotechnical inclusive) to the various products designed by The Reinforced Earth Company (Geoquest).
