Job summary

HDR is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer in Indianapolis to lead structural design for a broad range of projects within Building Engineering Services. The role emphasizes coordination with mechanical, electrical, and civil teams to deliver high-quality work on aggressive schedules.

You will mentor engineers, perform design calculations, and ensure code compliance while advancing HDR’s culture of employee ownership and excellence.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering required.
• Minimum 10 years structural engineering experience in building design.
• Professional Engineer license recognized by the state licensing board.
• Experience with design calculations and layouts.
• Ability to design and detail in steel, concrete, masonry and wood.
• Experience with architectural/engineering consulting firms preferred.
• Proficiency in RAM, ETABS, SAFE or similar software.
• Revit experience highly valued.
• Data Center design experience (2+ years) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Independently coordinate the work of the structural design teams through design development and contract documents.
• Provide guidance and mentorship of structural colleagues.
• Serve as a technical expert in structural engineering for projects; resolve complex issues.
• Provide QC reviews of design submissions within the region.
• Participate in interdisciplinary coordination and BIM clash detection.
• Meet with program leadership to relay project status and direction.
• Review structural documents for conflicts with other disciplines.
• Write and edit structural specifications and select procedures/materials.
