Job summary

Collins Aerospace, a RTX business, is seeking an experienced stress engineer in Aguadilla, PR to lead the analysis of structural components per FAA regulations and collaborate with IPTs across programs.

The role requires strong FE analysis, CAD proficiency, and ability to communicate with stakeholders. Hybrid work arrangement with on-site and remote days is available; U.S. citizenship and security clearance eligibility are required.

Qualifications

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience.
  • Demonstrated professional experience communicating in English across all levels of an organization (verbal and written).
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Review engineering drawings and models for structural integrity and compliance with FAA regulations.
  • Conduct and provide constructive feedback during peer reviews.
  • Mentor and document knowledge to provide technical guidance to team members.
  • Identify risks and opportunities with IPT.
  • Coordinate with design teams to ensure robust design and compliance with environmental standards.

This position will sit at our Aguadilla, PR location. You must be residing in Puerto Rico at the time of starting employment. Relocation is not offered. This role is categorized as hybrid, with 3 days onsite and 2 days remote following the schedule assigned by the Manager. Position Role Type: Hybrid. U.S. Citizen, U.S. Person, or Immigration Status Requirements: U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract. Security Clearance: None/Not Required.

What YOU will do:

  • Communicate technical topics and issues in a clear and concise manner to both technical peers as well as non-technical team members.
  • Review engineering drawings and models for structural integrity and compliance with FAA regulations.
  • Conduct and provide constructive feedback during peer reviews.
  • Mentor and document knowledge to provide technical guidance to both members of own team and beyond.
  • Work proactively with an integrated product team (IPT) to identify risks and opportunities.
  • Coordinate with and contribute to design teams on designs to ensure robust design choices and compliance with program requirements for environmental needs, such as shock, vibration, and crash loading per standards.
  • Document results from analyses both for internal and external customers such that data can be easily referenced in the future or support customer airworthiness certification on military airborne platforms.
  • Participate in and lead investigations into highly complex, open-ended tasks.
  • Search for and identify root cause of issues.
  • Perform as functional "Lead" for the stress team on specific project(s).

Qualifications you must have:

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Experience with finite element analysis software for structural considerations (ANSYS Mechanical or similar).
  • Experience with the calculation and documentation of modal analysis, internal stress loading, fatigue, and safety margins.
  • Experience researching and investigating structural design solutions.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills including Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint.
  • Active U.S. DoD Security Clearance.
  • Knowledge in analysis of composite materials such as fiberglass, phenolic and carbon fiber.
  • Experience in the aerospace industry, specifically with aircraft interiors.
  • Experience running fatigue analysis.
  • Experience with 3D CAD software (Solidworks, Creo, CATIA, NX, or similar) and the ability to apply best practices with said tools.
  • Knowledge of standards such as 14 CFR Part 25, MIL-STD-810, RTCA DO-160.
  • Experience in developing automaton tools using Excel API, Python, Visual Basic.
