Senior Structural Engineer - Bridge/Transportation - Atlanta, GA

Overview

VHB's structural engineering group plays a vital role in developing and enhancing connectivity through infrastructure projects such as complex bridge and interchange designs, rehabilitation and inspection, pedestrian walkways, and transit stations. This diverse range of structural engineering services helps improve mobility for the traveling public. VHB is expanding its southeastern region and is in search of a Senior Structural Engineer. In this position, you will serve primarily in a lead technical role in the planning, analysis, design, and detailing of bridge and other transportation‑related structural projects—from highway to pedestrian to rail—as well as mentor our structural team. You will also serve as a Project Manager and be expected to assist with project pursuits. The ideal candidate should possess a "can‑do" attitude, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and an ability to work independently as well as with a team in a dynamic, fast‑paced, and engaging environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform structural modeling, design, and oversight for bridge and other transportation infrastructure projects.
• Prepare construction documents, including plans, specifications, estimates, and calculation packages.
• Provide technical support and mentorship to structural engineering staff.
• Perform quality assurance reviews of project construction documents and engineering reports.
• Assist in preparation of qualification packages, proposals, and/or contracts involving technical approach, costs, and scheduling.
• Provide project management.
• Review fabrication drawings and provide construction plan reviews.

• Model‑based design experience.

Minimum Qualifications

• Minimum 8–11 years of structural bridge/transportation design experience required.
• B.S. in Civil Engineering required; master’s degree preferred.
• PE license required or ability to attain within 6 months.
• Experience completing engineering studies, design reports, compiling contract documents and developing contract plans, in conformity with accepted engineering standards and procedures including AASHTO, GDOT, local municipalities/counties, and other state DOTs.
• Strong familiarity with any of the following structural engineering software: Mathcad, FB‑MultiPier, ATLAS, STAAD Pro, LARSA 4D, AASHTOWare, MDX, SP Column, MerlinDASH, GDOT Structures Design Programs, etc.
• Model‑based design experience is a strong plus:
  • Bentley OpenBridge and OpenRoads
  • AutoCAD Civil 3D and Revit/Infraworks/Inventor
