Job summary

HDR in Woodcliff Lake, NJ, is seeking an experienced Senior Structural Engineer to lead building design from schematic through bid phases. You will coordinate multi-disciplinary teams, perform calculations, and ensure code compliance across projects.

The ideal candidate has 10+ years in structural engineering, a PE license for NJ/NY, and proficiency in AutoCAD, RAM, ETABS and SAFE. Emphasis on collaboration, ownership culture, and client-focused delivery.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• Minimum of 10 years of structural engineering experience related to building design.
• Professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, RAM, ETABS, SAFE or similar analytical software.
• Experience in design calculations and layouts.
• Ability to design and detail in steel, concrete, masonry, and wood.
• Understanding of gravity and lateral analysis.
• Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm.
• Commitment to being an active participant in an employee‑owned culture.

• Conduct design development and contract document work sessions at project sites in conjunction with the Project Manager and other disciplines.
• Coordinate workload through design development and construction document phases to meet schedule.
• Assist affected disciplines with addenda, RFI, change proposals, change orders, and incorporate agreed‑upon changes into project documents.
• Lead the structural team to complete the design of projects from schematic through bid phase services.
• Perform other duties as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

• SE Certification.
• 15+ years of experience.
• Preference given to local candidates.
• Experience with water‑bearing structures.
