Job summary

Bechtel Manufacturing and Technology is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer for part-time telework in Houston, TX. You will plan and perform structural design and estimates for foundations, concrete, and steel, under supervision, with in-person attendance required three days per week.

The role demands a bachelor’s degree and 8–10 years of experience in civil/structural engineering, plus strong knowledge of codes (ASCE/SEI 7, AISC LRFD, ACI 318, IBC) and EPC practices.

Responsibilities

• Plans, schedules, conducts, or coordinates detailed civil/structural engineering work for a project or staff group.
• Designs, develops, modifies, and evaluates civil/structural components and processes per design standards and BSAPs.
• Designs structures using advanced knowledge of structural analysis (static/dynamic) and materials engineering.
• Selects appropriate materials (steel, concrete, wood, masonry) based on load requirements.
• Produces complex structural deliverables: steel/concrete calculations and material requisitions.
• Coordinates procurement, bid evaluations, and subcontract requisitions; supports project/construction management.

Job Summary:

In this role you will plan, coordinate, and perform structural engineering tasks to produce design and estimates for projects within the Manufacturing and Technology Business Unit. You will develop, evaluate, coordinate or modify design, drawings, specifications and requisitions for foundations, concrete, and structural steel superstructure and associated components and other structural works under the supervision of a Senior Engineer or Engineering Group Supervisor.

This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and will require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership. #LI-AA1

Major Responsibilities:

• Plans, schedules, conducts, or coordinates detailed phases of the civil/structural engineering work for a global business unit, a project or staff group to include the preparation of original designs layouts, details, drawings and specifications for structures, building, etc.
• Designs, develops, modifies, and evaluates Civil/Structural components andprocesses utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), designstandards and guides, Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs), Design Control Check List (DCCL), and Design Review Notices(DRNs).
• Designs structures using advanced knowledge of structural analysis, including statics, dynamics, and materials engineering.
• Determines the appropriate use of various structural elements such as steel, wood, masonry, and concrete to ensure appropriate material is used based on load or stress requirements.
• Originates and checks complex structural engineering deliverables, such as steel and concrete calculations, specifications, and material requisitions.
• Analyzes problems with conflicting design requirements, sketches ideas and possible solutions.
• Analyzes and reports on the suitability of unconventional materials, techniques, and/or difficult coordination requirements.
• Plans, coordinates, or prepares equipment, work and material specifications, bid evaluations, and award recommendations.
• Prepares procurement and subcontract requisition documents and performs associated technical bid evaluations with award recommendations.
• Provides assistance toproject and construction management inidentifying and complying with project Civil/Structural requirements and inaddressing issues as they arise during project execution.

Education and Experience Requirements:

• Requires a bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

• Past experience with data centers is highly preferred.
• In-depth knowledge of industry codes and standards including ASCE/SEI 7, AISC LRFD Manual, ACI 318, IBC is required.
• Candidate must demonstrate an understanding of the EPC industry and designing for constructability.
• Career-level position within field.
• Considered highly skilled and proficient in discipline.
• Seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of area of specialization, resolves a wide range of issues in creative ways.
