Job summary

Quartus Engineering seeks a Senior Structural Analysis Engineer to join our team in the United States with a hybrid schedule based in Herndon, VA or San Diego, CA. You will perform FEA/STOP analyses, lead technical approaches for complex projects, and mentor junior engineers while coordinating with internal and external teams on aerospace and optical system challenges.

Responsibilities include defining analysis strategies, generating reports, supporting test plans, and contributing to proposals.

Qualifications

• BS/MS in Mechanical, Aerospace, Structural Engineering or similar field.
• 6 years of work experience with heavy emphasis on FEA.
• Experience with HyperMesh, FEMAP or NASTRAN.
• Experience in Spacecraft, Aeronautics, or Optical Systems.
• Must be a US Person (US Citizen or LPR).

• Perform structural FEA for static, nonlinear, thermal, modal and dynamics cases.
• Run STOP analyses for optical components and systems.
• Lead technical approaches and coordinate project workloads.
• Staff and manage small projects, tracking schedules and budgets.
• Assist redesign/optimization to meet load and environment requirements.
• Create analysis scripts and custom codes to improve workflow.
• Prepare pre-test analyses and data correlations.
• Support test plan development and feasibility studies.
• Generate reports documenting results, conclusions, and recommendations.
• Contribute to proposals and client-facing technical discussions.
• Provide technical leadership and mentoring within the team.

What will you do?

As a Structural Analysis Engineer, you will create, modify, and maintain finite element models (FEMs) of components and systems, with applications including stress analysis, structural dynamics, optical performance, and test correlation. As a Senior Engineer you may be expected to own the entire technical aspect of a given project, not necessarily just your area of expertise.

Essential Job Functions

• Perform structural finite element analysis (FEA) for a range of solutions and load types, including static, nonlinear, thermal distortion, modal, and structural dynamics (vibration & shock)
• Perform structural-thermal-optical-performance (STOP) analysis for optical components and systems
• Function as technical lead for certain projects -- define technical approach for complex problems, delegate and review portions of the workload, communicate with internal and external teams as a primary technical point of contact
• Function as project lead for smaller projects -- plan and staff projects, track schedules and budgets, act as a primary point of contact for all aspects of a project
• Assist in redesign and optimization of structures and systems not meeting load & environment requirements
• Generate custom codes to speed, improve, or expand analysis workflow and capabilities
• Perform pre-test analyses and model correlation
• Support test plan development and execution of feasibility studies
• Create reports to document analysis results, conclusions, and recommendations
• Lead or contribute to proposal efforts and sales meetings with potential clients
• Providing technical leadership in your area of expertise -- mentoring, reviewing, internal development

Location

Position is based in either Herndon, VA or San Diego, CA with a hybrid schedule.*

What are we looking for?

• BS and/or MS in Mechanical, Aerospace, Structural, or similar Engineering field
• 6 years of work experience with heavy emphasis on FEA
• Experience or expertise in one or more of the following commercial mechanical analysis tools is required: HyperMesh, FEMAP, NASTRAN
• Experience in one of the following areas: Spacecraft, Aeronautics, Composite Structures, Optical Systems
• Must be a US Person (US Citizen or Legal Permanent Resident)

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience or expertise with static, modal, and/or vibration test planning, analytical direction, and correlation is highly desirable
• Experience in designing using CAD/CAE software (SolidWorks preferred)
• Familiarity with optical raytracing software (eg. Zemax, CodeV, etc.)
• Experience or expertise in coding with MATLAB, Python, or similar is highly desirabe
• Experience in analysis/test technical lead for successful flight hardware programs

Compensation and Benefits

Senior Engineer pay range: $114,443 - $190,738*

*This pay range represents base pay. In addition, you may be eligible for additional benefits and compensation.
