Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory in Laurel, MD seeks a Senior Strike Weapons Analyst to contribute to the design, requirements, and evaluation of precision strike weapons and platforms. You will join a DOD-focused team of scientists, engineers, and analysts driving mission-level analysis and acquisition decisions.

You will develop models, assess survivability and lethality, mentor junior staff, and present findings to technical experts and decision makers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field or commensurate experience.
  • Experience using mission-level tools such as AFSIM, EADSIM, SUPPRESSOR, or JIMM.
  • Strong ability to learn new and exciting technical topics.
  • Able to communicate complex ideas to a variety of partners.
  • Proficient in MATLAB or Python.
  • Able to obtain SAP level access.
  • Able to obtain Interim Secret and Top Secret clearances; US citizenship.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and apply models to evaluate strike weapons and aircraft in denied environments.
  • Identify data-based survivability and lethality trends and advise DoD investment decisions.
  • Collaborate with a small team and guide senior engineers on high-profile projects.
  • Pursue independent research projects and seek creative solutions.
  • Present work through briefings to technical experts and pivotal decision makers.

As a Senior Strike Weapons Analyst, you will…
  • Develop and apply models and scenarios to evaluate strike weapons and aircraft operating in denied environments
  • Discover data-based, platform survivability and lethality trends; advise conclusions; and support DoD investment decisions
  • Work with a small team including junior analysts who will benefit from your experience, and senior engineers with whom you will guide the direction of high-profile DoD projects
  • Engage in independent research projects that encourage creative solutions and reward independent initiative
  • Have the opportunity to present your work through briefings to both technical specialists and pivotal decision makers
Qualifications

You’ll meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

  • Have a Bachelor’s degree in a technical field such as Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or Aerospace, Electrical, or other form of Engineering; or, commensurate military or professional experience
  • Have demonstrated ability performing analysis with mission-level tools such as AFSIM, EADSIM, SUPPRESSOR, or JIMM on the survivability and effectiveness of strike weapon systems
  • Are highly skilled in learning new and exciting technical topics
  • Can work effectively in a highly collaborative environment and communicate complex ideas to a variety of partners
  • Are proficient to fluent in a programming or scripting language such as MATLAB or Python
  • Are able to obtain the associated required Special Access Program (SAP) level access
  • Are able to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain a Top Secret level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship

You’ll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you…

  • Have a Master’s degree or PhD in a technical field such as Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or Aerospace, Electrical, or other form of Engineering
  • Have extensive knowledge of strike weapon systems and aircraft – how they’re built, how they operate, and how they collaborate with each other and additional offensive warfare platforms
  • Have demonstrated excellence leading mission-level modeling, simulation & analysis
  • Have an active Top Secret security clearance
  • Have demonstrated effective experience leading and mentoring other staff

The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL’s good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance.
