Job summary

Selby Jennings is seeking a Storage Infrastructure Engineer for a high-performance trading firm in Chicago. The role focuses on evolving scalable storage platforms, optimizing Linux environments, and building reliable infrastructure from the ground up.

You will design, automate, and maintain storage ecosystems, collaborate with platform teams, and support data streaming with Kafka while leveraging Kubernetes and modern observability tools.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in infrastructure or platform engineering focusing on storage technologies.
• Strong Linux administration and performance tuning skills.
• Hands-on IaC and CM tools (Ansible and Puppet).
• Experience with distributed storage and data lake environments.
• Experience with large-scale data platforms and big data ecosystems.
• Proficiency in Python or Java.
• Familiarity with Prometheus and modern observability tools.
• Experience with Kubernetes and containerized infrastructure.
• Exposure to AI-assisted development tools is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Architect, deploy, and maintain large-scale storage platforms including distributed storage and data lakes.
• Optimize Linux systems for storage efficiency and throughput.
• Develop infrastructure automation with IaC/CM tools.
• Implement monitoring, alerting, and observability for reliability.
• Collaborate with engineering to deliver scalable data infrastructure.
• Support data streaming and messaging (Kafka) environments.
• Contribute to containerized infrastructure initiatives with Kubernetes.
