Organization: VUMC IT Storage & Backup

Job Summary: This role implements and manages storage systems and infrastructure components for enterprise, mission‑critical computing environments independently. Provides expert support services for storage administration, performance tuning, monitoring and capacity planning. Designs and builds storage infrastructure to support the business environment. Recommends, develops and enforces policies and procedures for maintaining the security and integrity of data. Functions as lead on projects. May lead teams. Coaches the development of other Storage Administrators. Implements complex large/multiple development projects.

Note: This role can be a fully remote role from most US locations.

TECHNICAL CAPABILITIES
  • Storage Area Networks (Intermediate): Demonstrates mastery of storage area networks in practical applications of a difficult nature. Has been involved in the design of storage area networks including their cluster in close proximity to other computing resources such as IBM S/390 mainframes. Been involved in extending storage area networks to remote locations for backup and archival storage. Has used wide area network carrier technologies such as asynchronous transfer mode or synchronous optical networks. Possesses sufficient knowledge, training, and experience to be capable of successfully delivering storage area network products and services without requiring support and instruction from others.
  • Storage Mgt Best Practices (Advanced): Demonstrates the uppermost levels of expertise in applying best practices in challenging and complex situations. Often takes a role in establishing improvements in existing best practices and developing new ones for the company. May participate in advanced technology, engineering, or architecture areas which prepare best practices for use of new products and processes as they are brought into the company.
  • Storage System Performance (Intermediate): Demonstrates knowledge of what metrics are available, understands their meaning, and can produce sophisticated reports. Possesses sufficient knowledge, training, and experience to be capable of successfully delivering products and services using the skill without requiring support and instruction from others. Able to direct associates of lower proficiencies on where to find data. Performs statistical analysis with performance tuning data.
  • Storage Troubleshooting (Intermediate): Demonstrates the ability to identify, locate, isolate, and resolve or repair complex problems relating to products, computers, communications devices, systems, cables and other equipment. Able to make use of all of the advanced capabilities of the primary diagnostic tools and analyzers available. Familiar with the capabilities of vendors to find and fix problems. Capable of finding solutions and answers beyond the area of specialty. Displays the competence to implement solutions that may go beyond the scope of immediate problem. Demonstrates persistence and thoroughness.
