The Advanced EOIR team anticipates a near-term need for a Senior Staff Systems Engineer to work as the Technical Lead/Principal Investigator in performing algorithm concept and development work related to advanced electro-optical and infrared (EO/IR) sensing. As the lead of this team, you will guide the team in sensor modeling, signal/image processing, concept development/refinement, customer/sponsor engagement, and AI/ML algorithm development. The team is focused on researching solutions for emerging sensors and mission areas, and as a result of these successes, we have a need for more staff to support the growing range of programs supported. What You’ll Get To Do

The AEOIR business area has a rapidly growing set of efforts related to EOIR-based concept development, algorithm development, and signal exploitation. These programs span a range of modalities, but share a common theme of developing new techniques to solve challenging problems. As a technical lead, you will guide a diverse team of physicists, systems engineer, signal processing engineers, and AI/ML engineers in developing novel EOIR sensor capabilities and evaluating the performance of these techniques. You will also perform direct technical work to advance the needs for the group. You will develop concepts for novel EO/IR sensors and develop cutting-edge algorithms to meet emerging mission needs. You will analyze data collected from some of the most advanced sensors ever fielded and generate representative synthetic data using high-fidelity, physics-based models. You will lead interactions with external customers and internal leaders, building trust through communicating the technical achievements and capabilities of the group. You will set the technical vision for the group, defining roadmaps and developing internal R&D plans to create and mature novel technologies.

A strong candidate for this role has experience in airborne and/or space-based EOIR sensors, experience developing and implementing algorithms, experience leading teams to successful program execution, and strength in customer engagements.

This position is contingent upon the successful transfer of an active U.S. Government Secret Clearance and the ability to obtain Special Program Access.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree with 14 years of experience, a master’s degree with 12 years of experience, or a PhD with 10 years of experience in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics or related technical fields; an additional 4 years may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • U.S Citizenship is required.
  • A current/active U.S. Government Secret Clearance
  • Ability to obtain Special Program Access (SAP)
  • Experience as a team lead with successful customer interactions
  • Experience leading junior and peer team members
  • Experience in technical computing languages, e.g. Python or Matlab
  • Experience with airborne and/or space-based EOIR sensors
  • Experience with Physics-based understanding of detection methods for various phenomenologies
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree in STEM
  • Experience writing technical proposals
  • Experience acting as principal investigator of team lead for R&D programs
  • Experience developing and executing internal research and development projects
  • Current Top Secret clearance, SAP access(es), and/or SCI access
  • Strong communication skills, both for internal and external audiences

Primary Level Salary Range: $184,100.00 - $276,100.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
