Job summary

Waabi, a leader in Physical AI, is building autonomous transport solutions and growing a robust onboard sensors team in San Francisco. We work with live vehicles daily to mature sensor platforms and deliver reliable, scalable systems.

The role focuses on integrating sensors, debugging fielded systems, and collaborating across engineering and operations teams to push the boundaries of autonomous trucking and robotaxi technology.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of industry experience working on fielded sensor systems (cameras, lidar, radar, GPS, IMU).
• Collaborating with large teams that span many disciplines from engineering to operations.
• Proficiency in C/C++ or Rust (we use Rust) in resource constrained environments.
• Independently led engineering effort to solve critical systems problems.
• Experience having fielded and debugged Linux systems below the application level.

Responsibilities

• Shape the Waabi sensors platform as we scale.
• Solve integration issues across sensor modalities (LIDAR, RADAR, cameras).
• Deploy and debug software on real vehicles operating in the field daily.
• Integrate new sensors into onboard platforms.
• Work with multidisciplinary teams to design and build sensor solutions.
• Work with operations teams to understand live system behavior and improve the system.

Robots need to see the world they live in to make informed decisions. The Onboard Sensors Team brings that sight to our robot autonomous vehicles. We are currently growing our small group to support integrating, fielding, ruggedizing and productionizing our sensor systems to allow Waabi Driver to navigate roads and freeways - charting a new path forward in how freight is moved. We work with live vehicles everyday, learning how to best shape our sensor platform to fit our vision of the future.

You will…

• Help shape the Waabi sensors platform as we scale.
• Solve challenging integration issues across a number of sensor modalities (LIDAR, RADAR, cameras...).
• Deploy and debug software on real vehicles operating in the field daily.
• Integrate new types of sensors into existing and future onboard platforms.
• Work closely with multidisciplinary development teams to design and build innovative sensor solutions.
• Work closely with operations teams to understand live system behavior, resolve issues and form opinions on how we can mature our system going forward.

Qualifications:

• 6+ years of industry experience working on fielded sensor systems (cameras, lidar, radar, GPS, IMU)
• Collaborating with large teams that span many disciplines from engineering to operations.
• Proficiency in C\C++ or Rust (we use Rust) in resource constrained environments.
• Independently led engineering effort to solve critical systems problems.
• Experience having fielded and debugged Linux systems below the application level.

Bonus:

• Some electronics experience - ability to read a schematic and use basic test equipment.
• Passionate about self-driving technologies.
• Knowledgeable of how time plays a role in coordinated systems.
• Passionate for developing efficient, readable and testable code.

The US yearly salary range for this role is: $155,000 - $249,000 USD in addition to competitive perks & benefits. Waabi (US) Inc.’s yearly salary ranges are determined based on several factors in accordance with the Company’s compensation practices. The salary base range is reflective of the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Note: The Company provides additional compensation for employees in this role, including equity incentive awards and an annual performance bonus.
