Job description

Role Overview

We are looking for a Staff Full Stack Engineer who operates at the intersection of architecture, execution, and organizational leverage. You will be responsible for the technical direction and long-term health of MLG’s e-governance land records and property platform—a mission-critical public infrastructure system.

In this role, you will define system architecture across backend platforms, web applications, and blockchain integration layers, while remaining hands-on in the most complex and high-impact areas. You will partner closely with product, design, and engineering leaders to translate ambiguous government requirements into secure, scalable, and auditable systems used by governments, partners, and citizens.

Core Responsibilities
  • This role is for a high-output engineer who views AI tools (LLMs, SLMs, Cursor, Agents) as their primary force multiplier. You should be someone who can build at the speed of five engineers by leveraging a cutting-edge "AI-first" development workflow.
  • Own and evolve the end-to-end technical architecture for the platform, spanning backend services, frontend applications, data models, and on-chain/off-chain integration.
  • Act as a technical authority for cross-team design decisions; lead architecture reviews and influence roadmap tradeoffs.
  • Identify systemic risks and drive long-term technical investments across scalability, reliability, security, and maintainability.
Platform & System Design
  • Design and build core backend platforms for land-record ingestion, workflow/case management, approvals, audit trails, and partner APIs.
  • Define multi-tenant system models, including data isolation, row-level security, retention policies, and compliance-grade auditability.
  • Design event-driven architectures and workflow orchestration patterns supporting complex, multi-step government processes.
Blockchain & Integrity Layer
  • Define and implement the on-chain/off-chain strategy for anchoring record provenance and workflow events using EVM-compatible chains (BNB Chain / Ethereum).
  • Design transaction orchestration patterns including idempotency, retries, confirmation tracking, and reconciliation without exposing sensitive data.
Frontend & User Experience Enablement
  • Guide the architecture of React/TypeScript web applications that simplify complex e-governance workflows for administrators, partners, and operators.
  • Ensure frontend systems meet high standards for performance, accessibility, usability, and long-term maintainability.
Operational Excellence
  • Define and uphold reliability and performance expectations including SLOs, observability, alerting, and incident readiness.
  • Ensure systems are production-ready for citizen-scale traffic and government-grade uptime requirements.
Organizational Impact
  • Mentor senior and mid-level engineers, raising the bar for system design, code quality, and technical decision-making.
  • Establish engineering standards, shared patterns, and core infrastructure that enable teams to move faster with confidence.
  • Partner with engineering leadership on technical strategy, hiring signals, and engineering maturity.
Qualifications
  • 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including ownership of large, complex production systems.
  • Demonstrated experience operating as a technical leader across teams or domains (architecture ownership, platform leadership, or equivalent).
  • Deep backend expertise in distributed systems, API design, data modeling, security, and operational ownership.
  • Strong frontend experience with modern React/TypeScript, including performance optimization, accessibility, and state management.
  • Strong testing discipline across unit, integration, and end-to-end testing, with solid CI/CD practices.
  • Ability to operate effectively in ambiguous problem spaces and translate requirements into durable system designs.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience integrating with EVM-compatible blockchains and designing blockchain-backed verification systems.
  • Experience building B2G or regulated B2B platforms with strict audit, compliance, and data-integrity requirements.
  • Experience with event-driven architectures, workflow engines, and search platforms (Elasticsearch/OpenSearch).
  • Familiarity with security and compliance frameworks such as SOC 2 and ISO 27001, and privacy-by-design principles.
  • Experience designing partner-facing platforms including API standards, rate limiting, documentation, and onboarding.

Requirements:

  • 8+ years of professional software engineering, with demonstrable staff-level scope (driving cross-team technical decisions, not just shipping features)
  • Production full-stack experience: TypeScript + React on the frontend, and a strong backend language (e.g., Java/Kotlin, Go, or Python)
  • Hands-on experience building and operating Kafka / event-driven systems in production (not just "exposure")
  • Practical experience integrating LLM APIs into production features (Claude, Gemini, OpenAI, or similar) — prompt design, streaming responses, tool/function calling
  • Distributed systems and system-design proficiency: designing for scale, reliability, and fault tolerance
Core skills (expected, evaluated)
  • API design across REST and gRPC/GraphQL; authn/authz (OAuth2, JWT)
  • RAG fundamentals: embeddings, vector search (pgvector/Pinecone/Weaviate), retrieval strategy
  • LLM evaluation, guardrails, and cost/latency optimization
  • Relational databases (Postgres) with strong data modeling; Redis caching
  • Observability: structured logging, metrics, distributed tracing (OpenTelemetry, Prometheus/Grafana, Datadog)
  • CI/CD and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform)
  • Technical leadership: design review, mentorship, setting standards
Nice-to-have
  • Agentic/multi-step LLM workflows; orchestration tooling (LangChain, LlamaIndex)
  • GCP specifically (pairs naturally with Gemini)
  • ksqlDB / stream processing at scale
  • Fine-tuning or model-eval pipeline experience
  • Open-source contributions in relevant areas
