Job summary

Geosyntec Consultants in the United States is seeking a Senior Staff Radiological Chemist to support environmental remediation at HTW sites. The role sits on-site at Bloomfield, NJ; Pennington, NJ; or Columbia, MD, and involves being the on-site radiological chemist during field sampling.

You will calibrate and operate radiological field monitoring devices (NaI detectors, personal dosimeters), oversee analytical work, ensure safety and quality compliance, and travel up to 80% to client sites.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Geochemistry, Environmental Chemistry or Radiochemistry (required).
• Minimum two (2) years’ experience at HTW sites calibrating and using radiological field equipment or analytical work on radioactive cleanup projects.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to work with field teams and project managers.
• Knowledge of regulatory guidance related to radiological site assessment and remediation (preferred).
• Health & Safety training, medical monitoring and drug/background checks may be required.
• Valid U.S. driver’s license and satisfactory driving record for business travel (required).

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Familiarity with radiological field sampling equipment, including calibration and operation field monitoring/measurement devices such assodium iodide (NaI) detectors and personal dosimeters.
• Support investigations, studies, design, and remedial actions .
• Oversee and perform analytical work for radioactive contamination cleanup projects.
• Maintain compliance with all applicable safety and quality standards.
• Field up to 80% of time.
• Drive personal, company, or rental vehicles to client or company project or office sites, and other business locations, as needed.

Education and Licensure

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Geochemistry, Environmental Chemistry or Radiochemistry. (required)

Skills, Experience And Qualifications

• Minimum two (2) years’ experience required in investigations, studies, design, and remedial actions at Hazardous, Toxic, and Radioactive Waste sites, specifically calibrating and using radiological field monitoring equipment (e.g., NaI detectors, personal dosimeters, etc.), and/or analytical work on radioactive contamination cleanup projects; or equivalent combination of education and experience. (required)
• Excellent communication and organizational skills. (required)
• Ability to work collaboratively with field teams and project managers. (required)
• Knowledge of federal and state regulations and guidance related to environmental site assessment and remediation, especially pertaining to radiological contaminants (e.g., MARSSIM and other DOE, NRC, and USEPA documents. (preferred)
• Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, and client-driven drug and background testing may be required.
• Valid U.S. driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)

This opportunity will be posted for at least five days. Below are the potential compensation ranges that we in good faith believe are applicable for this role at the time of this posting and are only applicable for jobs to be performed in the specified location(s) below. The typical base salary range for this position is just one component of Geosyntec’s total compensation package for employees. Actual compensation will be determined based on education, experience, skill set and location.

• Minimum Salary: $67,385/year / Maximum Salary: $84,230 /year (Columbia, MD)
• Minimum Salary: $70,595/year / Maximum Salary: $88,245 /year (Pennington, NJ)
• Minimum Salary: $73,800/year / Maximum Salary: $92,250 /year (Bloomfield, NJ)
