Job summary

NALHE is seeking a Registered Nurse II to provide professional patient care for a designated group of patients. The RN II will perform assessments, develop and implement care plans, and coordinate with the health care team to ensure quality outcomes in a dynamic clinical environment.

The role requires delivering care with attention to patient rights, safety, and education, while maintaining documentation and contributing to unit performance improvements.

Responsibilities

• Performs ongoing systematic assessment/data collection focusing on physiologic, psychosocial, cultural, spiritual and cognitive status; includes nutrition, pain, education, advocacy.
• Formulates a goal-directed plan of care when appropriate.
• Implements care thoroughly and consistently.
• Establishes priorities based on patient needs and unit resources.
• Identifies patient/family learning needs and acts to meet them.
• Demonstrates sensitivity to patient/family rights, age-specific needs, culture and beliefs.
• Coordinates care for patients and populations.
• Builds effective relationships with health care team, patients and families.
• Delegates appropriately and coordinates duties of team members.
• Evaluates care effectiveness by team members.
• Uses effective communication within lines of authority.
• Applies safety principles and follows institutional protocols.
• Maintains composure in emergency situations and documents events.
• Shows accountability for own professional practice.
• Participates in staff development and performance improvement activities.
• Understands legal issues including patient confidentiality and risk management.
• Contributes to unit/Department Performance Improvement and nursing research.
• Identifies and solves problems; demonstrates a service philosophy in interactions.
• Provides staffing data and shows flexibility in staffing decisions and float adjustments.
• Demonstrates proficiency with computers and telecommunication tools in electronic medical records.
