Job summary

Lunar Outpost is seeking a Senior Staff Mechanical Analysis Engineer in Golden, CO to lead the mechanical analysis team in a fast-paced startup environment. You will build high-quality analytical models for space flight systems and guide design iterations using robust analysis.

The role requires 10+ years of space analysis experience, leadership, and deep knowledge of FEM tools such as ANSYS, FEMAP, and MATLAB. Collaboration with NASA standards and cross‑functional teams is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
• 10+ years in mechanical analysis for space flight systems.
• Experience leading analysis teams.
• Expertise in finite element modeling software.
• Proficiency interpreting loading profiles and test data.
• Familiarity with dynamic/kinematic analysis techniques.
• Familiarity with NASA/government specs and standards.
• Familiarity with fatigue/fracture standards and analysis methods.

Responsibilities

• Allocate resources and oversee multiple projects and analyses.

• Create loading profiles for vendors and stakeholders.
• Prepare materials for TRR, PDR, FRB, and CDR.
• Collaborate with NASA Insight in working group sessions.

Currently, we are seeking a Senior Staff Mechanical Analysis Engineer to contribute to our mission in a dynamic startup environment.

As a Senior Staff Mechanical Analysis Engineer, you will be responsible for leading and overseeing the mechanical analysis team at Lunar Outpost. This is a key leadership role requiring deep technical expertise and a proactive approach to team development in a fast‑paced, multidisciplinary environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop high-quality analytical models of vehicles/mobility platforms
• Perform mechanical analysis (Loads, Stress, Fatigue/Fracture, Dynamics, Vibration, etc.) in quick‑turn, rapid development environment
• Interact with mechanical engineering design team to rapidly iterate and improve designs as informed by analysis
• Interact with project management and company leadership to determine timelines, schedule tasks, and ensure deadlines are met
• Contribute to standardization of practices and procedures within the mechanical analysis team
• Write technical reports detailing analysis processes, results, and recommendations
• Allocate team resources and delegate analysis tasks to team members, supporting multiple projects and analysis efforts
• Oversee work performed to ensure high‑quality work products
• Understand analysis requirements and ensure analysis is performed in compliance with applicable Lunar Outpost and NASA standards
• Generate applicable loading profiles to be communicated to vendors and stakeholders
• Prepare and present materials for Test Readiness Reviews (TRR), Preliminary Design Reviews (PDR), Failure Review Boards (FRB), and Critical Design Reviews (CDR)
• Collaborate with NASA Insight members in recurring working group sessions

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
• 10+ years of applicable experience performing mechanical analysis on space flight systems
• Experience leading analysis teams
• Expertise in finite element modeling software
• Proficiency in interpreting various loading profiles and test data
• Familiarity with dynamic/kinematic analysis techniques
• Familiarity with related NASA and government specifications and standards
• Familiarity with fatigue and fracture standards, considerations, classifications, and analysis methods
• Self‑motivated, focused, and driven to meet critical deadlines
• Excellent organization and time‑management skills
• Excellent written and oral communication skills

• Master's degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline
• Experience performing mechanical analysis in an automotive environment
