Job summary

Dexcom in San Diego, CA is seeking a senior engineer to lead electrical characterization for CGM systems. You will define test strategies, run verification plans, and ensure product reliability across development to manufacturing.

You will mentor junior engineers, collaborate with hardware, firmware, quality, and regulatory teams, and drive data-driven decisions. Experience with FDA-regulated devices and design for reliability is highly valued.

Qualifications

  • Extensive experience with electrical system characterization, validation and debug.
  • Experience developing and executing test strategies and verification plans.
  • Hands-on lab experience with standard test equipment.
  • Troubleshooting mixed-signal systems (analog, digital, power, wireless, sensing).
  • Experience in FDA-regulated medical devices and design control environments.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills; mentoring engineers.

Our team designs high-volume wearable medical devices with a focus on low-power electronics, Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) communication, precision sensing technologies, reliability, and manufacturability.We support existing commercial products, drive continuous product improvements, and develop next-generation technologies that continue to expand the capabilities of glucose sensing and wearable medical devices. This role is ideal for a highly experienced engineer who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, uncovering system-level behavior through data, and influencing the design of life-changing medical technologies. As a senior technical leader within the Electronics Characterization Team, you will help define characterization strategies, drive engineering decisions, and ensure robust product performance from concept through commercialization.Where you come in: You will provide technical leadership across multiple product development programs, influencing engineering decisions and helping ensure robust product performance throughout the product lifecycle. You will define and execute characterization strategies, design verification activities, and test methodologies that establish product performance, reliability, and design margins across complex wearable medical device systems. You will develop comprehensive test plans, characterization frameworks, and experimental protocols to evaluate analog, digital, wireless, sensing, and power management subsystems. You will lead complex root cause investigations and failure analysis efforts spanning product development, manufacturing, reliability testing, and post-market performance. You will collaborate closely with hardware, firmware, systems, quality, reliability, manufacturing, and regulatory teams to drive effective technical solutions. You will analyze large data sets, identify key insights, and provide data-driven recommendations that influence product design and business decisions. You will support sustaining engineering activities for commercial products, including issue investigation, corrective actions, risk assessments, and design improvements. You will participate in architecture reviews, design reviews, and technical risk assessments, helping improve reliability, manufacturability, testability, and overall product quality. You will champion engineering best practices, test automation, and continuous improvement initiatives that increase team efficiency and product robustness. You will serve as a technical mentor and subject matter expert, helping develop junior engineers while fostering engineering excellence across the organization.What makes you successful: You are recognized as a technical leader with extensive experience in electrical system characterization, validation, debug, and root cause analysis. You have demonstrated success developing and executing complex test strategies, design verification plans, and characterization studies for electronic products. You bring strong hands-on laboratory expertise using oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, logic analyzers, digital multimeters, current analyzers, and other advanced electronic test equipment. You have significant experience troubleshooting mixed-signal electronic systems, including analog, digital, power, wireless, and sensing technologies. You are highly proficient in experimental design, statistical analysis, and data-driven decision making. You possess excellent written and verbal communication skills and can effectively present technical findings to engineers, cross-functional stakeholders, and senior leadership. You have experience supporting products throughout the full product lifecycle, including new product development, design verification, commercialization, and sustaining engineering. You have demonstrated success leading cross-functional technical initiatives and influencing engineering decisions without direct authority. You have experience mentoring engineers and helping teams improve technical rigor, problem-solving approaches, and engineering best practices. Ideally, you have experience developing FDA-regulated medical devices and working within design control environments. Ideally, you have experience with Design for Reliability (DFR), Design for Test (DFT), Design for Manufacturing (DFM), and Design for Cost (DFC) methodologies for high-volume products.
