Job summary

Langan Engineering & Environmental Services seeks a Senior Staff Geotechnical Engineer to join its team in San Francisco or San Jose. You will prepare technical reports, specifications, and plans, design foundations and retaining walls, and contribute to premier land development projects.

The role requires 3+ years of geotechnical experience, a Civil/Geotechnical degree, and strong report-writing skills. FE/EIT preferred; field work and client site visits are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering required.
• 3+ years of geotechnical experience in investigations and construction inspections.
• FE/EIT certification preferred; field reports and specification writing experience.
• Experience with earthwork, pile constructions, ground improvements, retaining walls, and excavation support systems.

Responsibilities

• Design earth structures, deep foundations, underpinning systems and supports.
• Coordinate field work, site visits and project management support.
• Oversight of geotechnical investigations, logs, and construction inspections.
• Prepare geotechnical reports, specifications, and logs; ensure QA/QC.
• Travel to client sites and work sites as required.

Job Summary

Langan is seeking a Senior Staff Geotechnical Engineer to join its collaborative team in San Francisco or San Jose. This individual will serve a key function providing the preparation of technical reports, specifications, plans, designing foundations, retaining walls, and other geotechnical aspects of construction. In this role, you will have the opportunity to partner cross-functionally on premier land development projects.

Job Responsibilities

Design earth structures, deep foundations, support of excavation and underpinning systems; Assist project manager with field work coordination and project management support; Scope and oversee geotechnical investigations and construction projects, and periodically perform inspections of geotechnical construction where needed; Coordinate investigations and assist in geotechnical report writing; Prepare standard logs and field forms, including drilling and test pit logs, field investigation dailies, and chain of custody logs; Fieldwork is required; and Perform other duties as requested.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering required, Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering strongly preferred; 3+ years of related geotechnical experience in geotechnical investigations and construction inspections; FE/EIT certification preferred; Office experience with investigation and field work coordination, geotechnical reports, and specification writing; Prior field experience in earthwork, driven and drilled pile construction, load testing, footings subgrade and backfill inspection, ground improvements, retaining wall design and construction, and excavation support system design and inspection; Desired software knowledge: gINT, Slide/SLOPE/W, PLAXIS, LPILE, GRLWEAP, MSEW, SHAKE; Excellent written and verbal communication skills; Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical, multitasking, and judgment capabilities; Ability to effectively work independently and in a team environment; Ability to perform field work as required; and Possess reliable transportation for client meetings and job site visits and a valid driver's license in good standing.

Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as related work experience, location, market conditions, education/training, certifications and other credentials, as well as applicable knowledge and skills. Certain roles may be eligible for overtime and participation in the firm's annual bonus and performance review program. Bonuses are discretionary and based on individual job performance and the profitability of the firm. Employees are also eligible to receive up to 20 days of paid vacation time, 10 days of paid sick time and 10 paid holidays throughout the year. Eligibility and actual paid time off may vary based on local law and factors such as hours worked, related work experience and level.

Pay Range

$72,000 - $104,000 USD
