Job summary

BNSF is seeking a senior data scientist to drive analytics initiatives across the business. You will develop predictive models, analyze large datasets with Python/R, and communicate insights to guide strategic decisions.

This remote, US-based position requires 6+ years of experience, strong coding, visualization, cloud skills, and ML/LLM expertise. Occasional travel to Fort Worth may be required; H-1B/TN/STEM OPT sponsorship is considered.

Qualifications

• Minimum 6 years of experience building optimization algorithms or related work.
• Advanced proficiency in Python, R, SQL, and Java.
• Strong data visualization skills to communicate insights clearly.
• Experience with data science cloud platforms and their integration into business solutions.
• Curiosity and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment.
• Proven ability to quickly learn new technologies.
• Excellent communication to explain technical concepts to diverse audiences.
• Deep knowledge of statistics and ML techniques.
• Understanding of core architecture of LLMs (transformers, attention).
• Experience with prompt engineering (CoT, RAG, fine-tuning, evaluation).
• Experience with vector databases and embeddings.
• Experience with model fine-tuning.
• Experience with GPU optimization.

Responsibilities

• Lead cross-functional collaboration to identify analytic initiatives and develop data-driven solutions.
• Analyze large datasets to identify meaningful patterns for actionable insights.
• Lead development and deployment of advanced ML models to forecast outcomes.
• Engage stakeholders to grasp requirements and deliver insights.
• Design and present visualizations and reports communicating findings.
• Maintain and enhance data pipelines to ensure data quality.
• Stay current with trends in data science and ML.
• Extract/transform data from SQL/NoSQL using R/Python.
• Build, test, and validate statistical and ML models.
• Lead implementation of analytic solutions into reporting platforms or production systems.
• Monitor and troubleshoot production issues, including 24/7 on-call rotation.
