Job summary

Coupang is seeking an experienced engineering leader for its Pricing team in Seattle. You will architect and implement next-generation pricing determination platforms and set standards for high-availability, scalable systems powering Coupang's commerce engine.

You will collaborate with product owners, engineers, and other teams to drive solutions that impact tens of millions of users daily, shaping pricing strategy across global markets.

Role Overview

The Pricing team is one of the core pillars of Coupang's business and is responsible for determining the price of every product sold on Coupang. Serving hundreds of millions of requests every day, our mission is to build and maintain highly scalable, extensible platforms that are also highly available and robust.

As part of our Pricing team, you will directly architect and implement our next-generation pricing determination platforms. You will help the team adopt industry best practices in software development and operations while elevating their engineering skills to build pioneering e-commerce experiences in new global markets. Working closely with engineers across multiple geographic locations, you'll solve challenging problems at scale with high reliability. Your efforts will directly impact tens of millions of users every single day.

What You Will Do

• Serve as a hands-on engineering leader with deep expertise in open-source technologies and distributed systems
• Design layered applications and drive the highest quality of architecture and design for pricing and commerce systems
• Partner with Product Owners and business stakeholders to understand problems, develop solutions, and lead engineers on mission-critical projects that resolve complex business challenges
• Define roadmaps and a technical vision for the scalable and robust growth of the pricing platform to support business expansion
• Collaborate with other Coupang engineering teams to build extensible services that unlock opportunities for innovation

Minimum Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional experience in software design and development
• Strong experience with distributed systems and extensive experience building large-scale enterprise platforms
• Exceptional analytical and deep-dive skills; a bar raiser for engineering excellence
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
• Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with shifting priorities and tight deadlines

Preferred Qualifications

• Proficiency in Java or similar JVM-based languages; experience with Spring Boot or equivalent frameworks
• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (e.g. AWS) and container orchestration (Kubernetes, Docker)
• Experience with event-driven architectures, stream processing (Kafka, Flink), and real-time data pipelines
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, and DevOps best practices
• Experience working in e-commerce, marketplace, or high-traffic consumer-facing platforms

Our compensation reflects the cost of living across several US geographic markets. At Coupang, your base pay is one part of your total compensation.

The base pay for this position ranges from $174,000/year to $299,000/year. Pay is based on several factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Annual bonus is 0-20% of the base salary.
