The Animal Legal Defense Fund is seeking a Senior Staff Attorney for its Litigation Program. This remote, US-based role focuses on leading high-impact animal-law cases, directing research, and developing novel legal theories.

Qualifications

• At least 2 years of experience developing and litigating significant cases or projects.
• Juris Doctor degree and bar admission in their state of residence.
• Excellent organizational, prioritization, and deadline-driven skills.
• Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication.
• Collaborative and positive team player taking initiative.

Responsibilities

• Act as lead counsel for all assigned cases and projects, including research and filings.
• Research novel theories/strategies and develop supporting fact patterns.
• Mentor and review work of junior staff without formal supervisory duties.
• Draft and submit amicus briefs on behalf of ALDF.
• Coordinate with Communications on legal content and developments.
• Collaborate with other programs on civil/criminal cases.
• Manage pro bono and local counsel on cases with external lawyers.
• Prepare and deliver presentations for conferences and events.
• Provide in-house expertise on Litigation Program cases and civil procedure.
• Perform other duties to advance ALDF’s mission.
