Job summary

IonQ is seeking a Senior Staff Software Architect to lead the design of a high-scale Network Monitoring Platform. You will own end-to-end architecture from data modeling to cloud-native deployment, writing Go/Rust code and guiding a cross-functional team in distributed data systems.

The role requires deep experience with telemetry, time-series data, and multi-cloud deployments. Hybrid onsite work in Santa Clara, CA is available, with global scalability considerations and strong leadership

Qualifications

• 12+ years in software or platform architecture.
• 5+ years leading architecture for large-scale distributed systems.
• Experience with telemetry ingestion pipelines and fleet management.
• Hands-on coding with Go and/or Rust.
• Cloud-native design with Kubernetes and multi-cloud.

Responsibilities

• Architect cloud-native ingestion and processing pipelines handling telemetry from hundreds of thousands of devices.
• Define and own the platform's unified data model, spanning configuration state, telemetry, and topology relationships.
• Write and review production Go/Rust code for performance-critical components.
• Define data partitioning, sharding, and retention strategies for high-volume streams.
• Lead cloud-native deployment patterns (Kubernetes, service mesh, autoscaling) across multi-cloud environments.
• Evaluate technologies for time-series databases, graph stores, and stream processors.
• Partner with Product and Engineering to translate monitoring needs into platform capabilities.
• Mentor engineers through architecture reviews and coding standards.
