Job summary

Renesas Electronics Corp. is seeking an Application Engineer for the Performance Computing Power Application Engineering team.

You will join a fast-paced power management group serving AI and cloud infrastructure markets, collaborating with marketing, IC design, firmware, and systems teams to deliver innovative power solutions. You will validate digital multiphase controllers, evaluate algorithms in the lab, model DC-DC converters, and develop EVBs with thermal design and data sheets to support

Qualifications

• A good understanding of power management, including magnetics and control loop theory.
• Embedded programming experience and synthesizing Verilog into FPGA.
• MS with 2 years of equivalent industry experience will be considered.
• Experience with DC/DC converters and multiphase buck converters.
• Coursework in digital systems and mixed-signal ICs; knowledge of control loop theory.

Responsibilities

• Validate new digital multiphase controllers and Smart Power Stages with senior engineers.
• Evaluate algorithms in the lab using FPGA, microcontrollers, and analog front end.
• Model DC-DC converters and IC blocks using SIMPLIS and MATLAB.
• Develop EVBs with component selection, layout, and thermal design.
• Create datasheets and application notes to support customer engagement.

You will engage cross-functionally with a diverse team, including marketing, IC design, firmware engineering, and systems engineering teams, to deliver the most innovative power solutions.

Responsibilities

A broad comprehension of DC/DC power conversion is required, including familiarity with digital multiphase PWM controllers. Key responsibilities include:

• Work with senior applications, design and test engineers to validate new digital multiphase controllers and Smart Power Stages to evaluate system-level performance.
• Work with senior applications engineers and evaluate new algorithms in the lab using a combination of FPGA, Microcontrollers, and custom Analog Front End.
• Behavioral modeling of DC-DC converters, including IC blocks, using SIMPLIS and/or MATLAB to support the design engineering team with new control architectures.
• Develop EVBs, including responsibility for component selection, layout, and thermal design
• Develop collateral such as datasheets, performance reports, and application notes to support customer engagement.

Qualifications

This role requires a good understanding of power management, including magnetics, control loop theory, and component selection. Experience in embedded programming and synthesizing Verilog code into FPGA is highly desired.

• Alternatively, an MS non-thesis option with 2 years of equivalent industry experience will be considered.
• Experience with DC/DC converters with a good understanding of multiphase buck converters is a must.
• Coursework in digital systems, Verilog. Mixed-signal integrated circuits are highly desired.
• Understanding of control loop theory and its application in power converters.
• Proficiency in using lab equipment, including network analyzers, oscilloscopes and waveform generators.
• Experience with automation of lab testing.

Education

• A New College Graduate (NCG) with an MS or a Ph.D. preferably with a thesis/dissertation focused on power management/power electronics is required.
