Job summary

Scratch Financial is seeking a Senior Staff Accountant in Pasadena, CA to support daily, weekly, and monthly accounting and reconciliation for our payments processing business. You will work closely with the Director of Accounting/Controller on the monthly close, and support lending and revenue streams across the organization.

You will pull and analyze transactions from our BigQuery database, prepare entries for QuickBooks Online, and help ensure data integrity through balance sheet

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
• Working knowledge of US GAAP and accrual accounting.
• Hands-on experience with month-end close and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Advanced Excel skills (lookups, pivot tables, large files).
• Proficiency in Google Workspace (Sheets, Docs, Drive).
• High attention to detail and accuracy.

Responsibilities

• Pull and analyze transactions from BigQuery, transform in Google Sheets/Excel, and import entries into QuickBooks Online for payments processing.
• Calculate, run, and analyze monthly billing for the payments processing business and track AR.
• Reconcile payments processing activity by clinic and clinic consolidators monthly, resolve discrepancies with Product/Revenue teams.
• Own month-end close tasks: journal entries, accruals, and schedules.
• Support lending month-end close tasks and provide backup for reporting.
• Assist in preparing schedules for annual audits and provide auditors with requested support.
• Handle additional projects as assigned by the Director of Accounting/Controller.

Position Overview

Senior Staff Accountant to assist primarily in daily, weekly and monthly accounting and reconciliation for our payments processing side of the business and is a core partner to the Director of Accounting/Controller in the monthly close. The position will also support all monthly close tasks and reconciliations across the entire business, including relating to our loan portfolio and other revenue streams.

What You'll Do

• Pull and analyze transactions from our BigQuery database, transforming it in Google Sheets/Excel, and importing detailed and summarized entries into QuickBooks Online for the payments processing business.
• Calculate, run, and analyze monthly billing for the payments processing business including ensuring and tracking AR related to billing, ensuring payments from our customers are drafted timely and entering payments for AR into QuickBooks Online timely for proper review and analysis.
• Reconcile payments processing activity by clinic and clinic consolidators on a monthly basis to ensure data integrity, analyzing discrepancies and working with the Product and Revenue Teams to resolve differences in a timely manner.
• Own a defined set of month end close tasks against the month end close calendar including journal entries, accruals, and other required schedules.
• Support month end close tasks for the lending business, including journal entries and account reconciliations as needed and serving as a backup for daily and monthly lending reporting as needed.
• Assist in preparing schedules for the annual audit and other various financial audits including searching for and providing support requested by the auditors for testing.
• Other special projects as assigned by the Director of Accounting/Controller.

What We Are Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
• Working knowledge of US GAAP and accrual accounting.
• Hands‑on experience with month‑end close and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Advanced Excel skills, including lookups, pivot tables, and working with large transaction files.
• Proficiency in Google Workspace, especially Google Sheets, Docs and Drive.
• High attention to detail

Nice to Have

• Experience with QuickBooks Online (Advanced preferred), including bulk journal entry and transaction imports through native or third‑party import tools.
• Ability to write and run queries in Google BigQuery (or similar SQL tools) to pull, join, and analyze transaction data.
• Experience in payments, merchant services, fintech, or lending.
• Exposure to multi‑currency accounting or Canadian operations.
• Experience with a loan servicing platform such as LoanPro.
• Experience in Stripe or related platforms.
• CPA (or progress toward it)
